they often want to sell bigger quantities.

Talk about a sample order with them you may can order only 5 pieces. (I would take one)

I asked them who their regional dealers are, so I can buy from them instead - they didn't reply.

Frankly I'd rather keep my horrible key than give those a-holes any of my hard earned cash Evil or Very Mad

Ok, so say I get this key, get it cut...

Does the dealer have to code it? Confused

Fraid not, already checked that out... Getting the key to turn in the lock is never the issue, or even unlocking the doors.

The issue is the transponder chip programming. I've phoned a lot of companies over the last week or so who say they can "clone" the transponder chips, but whenever you say "Range Rover" they have all said they cant do them Sad

If you were prepared to sacrifice your original key you could get a flip key, but it's a bit risky.

I "think" the immobiliser/security module is different with the flip keys, but haven't had time to 100% verify this.

I looked at that option - however it's never going to look great. It's still a BMW key inside a cheap aftermarket case.

Personally I prefer the idea of the real deal. Otherwise I don't see much point myself.

I agree but what you can do is remove the three micro switches mount them in any format you require for your new fob and you dont ruin your origional key this gives you the option of using various fobs

Well to add to this i am keeping my eye on the bay so as to buy a cheaper newer style key, maybe even a disco 4 one, and an older key that still works and mix and match both of them to get a nice new flip key.

Its not perfect for the disco 4 option as the key doesn't flip out as easy as a normal flip key being a smart start system but im sure given enough time and fiddling something could work but the newer style key still looks good Smile

i have tried several times with a few flip style keys and they will not programe to the bmw cars,i.e open and close the doors, the bmw diamond key will but you are back to the same type of key, i do know some one who can do the transponder chip, not cheap... but you could use the one from your old key, they just fall out, the key cutting is not a prob..back to programming it to open and close, you will need a remote that can clone and copy the commands. i dont think removing the board from your old key and modding it will work they are to different.
but there may be some one out there that can surprise us all. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Flip key from LR dealer

All, when i purchased my car the spare key wasnt present. In the end the delares ordered my a new key and coded it. This new key was indeed a new style 'flip' key. As this was all done as part of my vehicle purchase i have no cost information.

All i can confirm is that after 6 months, the new flip style ke is working (touch wood) and ive no no issues.

If the mew key style is that important, i would suggest going via your dealer who can sort it all out for you.
