United Kingdom 2018 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Montalcino Red
275/45 R22 on 2018 SDV8?

Does anyone have experience of using the higher 45% aspect ratio over the standard 40%, is it even possible without rubbing etc.? I really want more sidewall!

I went from 255/50 R20 to 255/55 R20 on my L322, which worked superbly, being a 3.41% increase (from 763 to 789mm).

The increase on the 22” wheel would be 3.47% (From 779 to 806mm).

Hoping Vogue, amongst others, might comment as has previously mentioned running oversize tyres! My car will be used for picking-up / shooting / stalking.

Thanks in advance! 2018 L405 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I have successfully run 285/50/20 which are nominally 792mm in diameter on the tyre calculator - however mine were larger All Terrains at 800mm - I measured them and different makes vary.

The 275/45/22 are 806mm in diameter - I.e. that’s only 3mm more top and bottom / each side compared to the 285/50/20 I had - if that makes sense as the 6mm is shared.

I suspect you would be fine - but do bare in mind that every car is slightly different - wheel arch liners are flexible plastic and some may have slightly more clearance than others.

Personally if that’s the size you want, I would go for it. As an alternative General do an AT3 in 285/40/22 which is a bit wider and slightly more diameter than the std 275.

I have run this size and they fit perfectly with no rubbing - they are also a std size fitted to some RR, e.g. the SVR.

This next shooting season I’m going for a set of new 275/45/21 AT3’s on a new set of rims. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Just thought - the 285/40/22 are on offer at some tyre depots at the moment and ironically they are cheaper that the 21” versions at £995 for a set of four 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Vogue, thank you for taking the time to respond. I too was going to go to the 275/45 21’s until I realised the turbine wheels I have aren’t available in 21”.

I am going to try the 275/45R22’s, I think! I was going to fit Grabber AT3, as I’ve found them excellent on my L322, coping well with Chilterns mud, flints etc. However, I seem to remember that you found the Cooper AT3 (presumably the 4S variant) better, would you stick to that? There seems little price difference between the two brands and the EU labels are the same. The Grabbers have a slightly higher load rating which may make the Cooper ride a little softer? Hopefully you can confirm they aren’t inferior to the Grabbers off-road. 2018 L405 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I’ve had 4 sets of Grabbers on Range Rovers and 1 set of the Cooper AT3’s - I would quite happily have either and couldn’t tell any difference off road - I didn’t get stuck once with either - several friends did though in Discovery 4’s,5’s and RR’s on standard OEM tyres.

I bought the Coopers as that was all that was available at the time in 285/50/20. Whilst I would happily use either, the Coopers are definitely quieter, and one set of Generals had to be replaced when only 1/4 worn due to absolutely shocking drumming on my wife’s car. I couldn’t bare to be driven in it, the noise was that bad. I’m unsure if that was just a bad batch or not, or whether the rubber had hardened - they were around 3 years old.

In summary, the sidewalls of the Grabbers look slightly more aggressive than the Coopers, both are as equally good off road, the Coopers are quieter and I suspect they just had the edge with on road grip.

However, having said all that my next set this winter are likely to be GG as Coopers don’t do a 21” AT. Just a thought - why not keep your 22” for Spring and summer and have a 2nd set of rims for the shooting season - it’s a shame to be running All Terrain tyres all year round. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

This might help re assessing if the 275/45/22 will fit as they are the same diameter :-
