General service and diagnostics costs.

Long time lurker - just about to become an owner (Saturday).
2016 4.4l SDV8 Auto

Can't wait!!

I am buying off a dealer but one who deals with all sorts of decent cars - Porsches, the occasional high performance sports car etc.
There is a warranty but I want an LR local dealer to give it the once over in any event.
There is also a rear parking sensor that needs replacing anyway I think:
'Blindspot Detection Not Available,' and 'Reverse Traffic Detection Not Available,' faults appear (so I got some knocked off).

Phoned up 3 or 4 local(ish) LR dealers - MIDLANDS
Sytner, Inchape, Marshalls all with vastly different (by £several hundred) for the same servicing and once over costs.
They are all within an hour or each other.

Is there any actual benefit to one over the other? Does one offer a better/more thorough service?
Should I just not bother and go to a decent but not 'official' LR franchise dealer?

Thoughts and experiences welcome.
Cheers

P. S. - are the faults easy fixes or is this the opening of Pandora's box?

Hi, the general feedback is that main dealers are all a bit hit and miss as far as service goes, and the pricing is extortionate.

If all you want are stamps in the book from JLR for servicing then your going to have to stump up the cash and bend over.

If you value service above all else then look for a good indie in your area, am sure the folks here will point you in the right direction. You'll still get your stamps but they'll not be JLR and all the better for it I say.

Just my opinion and am sure I'll get ripped to bits in the replies, but good luck on your journey.

As Andyroo says, save yourself money and find a good local independent with a bit of Land Rover experience. The dealer labour rates will be £160-180 per hour. An independent repairer will give you a choice of genuine or oem parts. Usually oem will save you a fortune. The truck is 8 years old so the value won't be unduly affected by continued history of ongoing maintenance by a local garage.
Good luck with your purchase and enjoy ownership. They are an amazing vehicle.

Use a good local independent LR specialist and avoid the main dealers. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
New Defender D300 90
1974 Series 3 Lightweight = "Millie"
My preferred specialist: www.glenrands.co.uk
