I don't have my US version 2005 RR owner's manual. The only thing I could find was RAVE zip and there, it is 2003 MY manual

In that manual Lubricants & Fluids on page 271 is following info:

Main gearbox
Filled for life. Esso LT71141.

Power steering
Texaco Cold Climate PAS fluid 14315 or service part number LRN2261 - ACE/PAS fluid.

Brake reservoir
Any brake fluid having a minimum boiling point of 500ºF (260°C) and complying with FMVSS 116 DOT4.

Engine cooling system
Use Castrol Anti-freeze NF, Texaco AFC or service part number LRN6024. Use one part anti-freeze to one part water for protection down to -36° C.

Use only Texaco anti-freeze coolant (AFC). This is an ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing no methanol) with silicate non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors, to protect the cooling system
CAUTION: If Texaco AFC is unavailable, use any ethylene glycol based anti-freeze (containing no methanol) with silicate non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors.

You should be able to download the handbook for your vehicle from Land Rover topix which will clarify the correct oils for your specific vehicle, but generally what goes for a petrol/ diesel over here will apply over the pond too.

As for gearbox, there are a lot of threads about it on the site. Filled for life should be translated as filled for life of the manufacturer warranty … beyond that they don’t care. The reality is that replacing the fluid is a good thing for the most part. And ZF suggests out should be replaced on a 50 to 70k mileage schedule … ish. You typically can only drain and refill half of the overall fluid quantity in an auto as the other half sits in the torque converter which doesn’t have a drain ability. V8 or else ...

Regarding the transmission fluid, the big driveline change happened for 2006 model year for petrol models, so I assume yours is the earlier BMW-engined 4.4 V8 with the 5-speed transmission (ZF 5HP24). The only fluid you should put in your 5HP24 is one of these:



Here in the UK, Mobil ATF LT71141 is the easiest to source but I suspect that, in the USA, it’s probably easier to get hold of ZF Lifeguard Fluid 5 or maybe Pentosin ATF1.

Esso LT71141 was rebranded to Mobil ATF LT71141 many years ago.
