Got a strange one..! Suddenly today, The Bong warning came on saying check coolant level. Checked it and had to put a litre in. Drove car all day and no further warning. Went out late afternoon and when returning to car noticed puddle beneath expansion tank on floor. Warning cam on again, had to then put about half liter in. Could not see where leak coming from. Arrived home and filed to proper level and left car running. All fans were working and no leak..!
Decided to drive car up road and back and warning came back on. Back on drive, I gingerly undid filler cap and there was not a great deal of pressure, then alot of rumbling and gushing of fluid from filler cap. Checked oil filer cap no sludge and no crud round coolant filler cap.
I have read alot about sensors and problems with expansion tanks.
Car is 2002 L322 which has been lavised regularly. Also new radiatior and viscous fan about 3 months ago.

Has anyone got any suggestions please.

has the expansion tank cap given up the ghost? do these not have pressure valves built into them?

sounds like the cap what number is on your expansion cap? "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

Just checked and it is 200. I am just off to get cap, expansion box and sensor. Will let you know later

If you are getting a puddle under the car that's a good thing. If you were loosing it and didn't know where it could have been a HGF. But yours sounds quite easy to sort. 04, 4.4V8, Vogue Oslo Blue with LPG.

Just been and got cap and it has 140 stamped on it. Queried it with the Parts guy and he said it was correct one. Anyone any ideas why the change from 200 to 140 ?

as far as i can remember , the 200 is for petrol and 140 is for diesels.....

enter "coolant loss" into the search [with quotation marks]

i thought the v8 petrol was meant to be 200 ....as if i remember right someone else had this problem before and theres was due to the incorrect cap "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

If yours is a petrol and you put a 140 on you WILL loose water. The petrol system is pressurised higher than the diesel. This was covered a few months back. 04, 4.4V8, Vogue Oslo Blue with LPG.

The original I took off had 200 stamped on it. The one i was given by Lancasters had 140 stamped on it. I have just queried this with them and they say there is only one part number....! Any suggestions please

they have given you the wrong part...i'd go somewhere else..

they sell the caps on fleebay just give them theres back and get one from there "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

and maybe this is why the coolant is more prone to being lost..
