Drop links - Anti Roll Bar links - suspension knocking noise

I have had a knocking noise coming from my suspension for some time now. I had a couple of bushes replaced on the rear, a ball joint on the passenger front wheel along with the other ball joint and bush on the same corner and it still made noise.

After lots of threads on here and rangerovers.net I decided to do my drop links or anti roll bar links as they are called. I can confirm this cured my very very annoying knocking noise that I have lived with for far too long. Bow down

They are really cheap and one of the easiest jobs I have done, what a relief, don't hesite and replace them today. Thumbs Up

Couple of tips are, get yourself a 18mm open end spanner as the nut just turns otherwise (my spanner set for some reason goes straight from 17mm to 19mm for some randem reason. Also when you remove the drop link put a trolley jack or similar under the suspension strutt, so that it doesn't drop down too far (could possible damage bag, possibly?). Also make sure you put the hard washer back on the top fixing.

Good luck and thanks for people who have inputted previously on this subject.

Adam.

PS The Rave manual goes on about remembering to put the hard washer back on the links when removed, mine only had these on the top fixing< I take it that this is the case for all vehicles and not lost in the past through previous poor work ?

Just realised this should really be in the maintenance section if someone can move it for me.

Cheers Adam

Normally when the front drop links go weak, you have a rattling sound coming front the front wheel.

It appears worse when you travel over uneven ground.

Best to replace both left and right at the same time.

I was changing them on my X5 every 20k.

Noise was from front n/s and also appeared rear n/s but noise has stopped now. I replaced both left and right front drop links, as I said cheap and really easy do both.

I got mine from eBay, just search for L322 Link They are one of those things where the pattern part is better quality than original.

I only needed to do the front on mine, I paid a garage 1/2 hour labour to change them.

I got them from LRparts, there was 3 options, Genuine LR, Replica ones made by same company that provide LR, then there was replica ones from britparts.

I purchased the same company that provide LR as they were the same price as the cheap ones (about £12.50 each plus dread) but they e mailed saying not in stock and unsure when they would be so gfot the cheap ones.

No probs but early days.

I've just changed my front airbag/strut on the passenger side and had a knocking noise coming from that side ever since! Whats this hard washer? Have you got any pics or a link to this hard washer? Just a thought but I don't remember it when putting my drop links back on Confused Been trying to find the cause of this knock for weeks, been driving me mad Rolling Eyes I've changed almost the whole front nearside suspension in the process Big Cry It makes multiple knock noise's whenever I go down a slightly rough road. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

According to Rave the hard washer goes in the top fitting behind the balljoint where it fits into the damper. Not on the side where the nut is. If you download Rave you can read about it for yourself and see the pictures.
