EAS Fault diagnostic

Right, my RAC turned up this morning and cleared my EAS in no time at all. The only fault in the EAS was "Too much energy for regulation needed: front axle". Does anyone have an idea what this could be or is it a random error that might never turn up again?

As a side note i had very heavy steering since day one. i never drove another FFRR apart from a new 2011 before i got mine so just thought it was the norm on older cars. Cleared all the faults with the RAC as there were a lot due to battery on and off etc, but when i took her out my steering was light as a feather and turned the car into something even better! [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

To follow up on this i had the same EAS fault ping up. When i contacted Storey when i had it last time he said this fault was due to a leaking front strut. To test it i put it in off-road height before i went on holiday and expected to return to it slumped down on one side or both, but returned home to nothing! Still in full height!
Does anyone have any ideas? Could this be a legasy of a failing compressor?

On the pluss side steering is still great! [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I'd be more likely to believe it's a front airbag leaking than the compressor. The reason for this is that it is telling you it has to pump more air to keep the front axle level. That's a function of a leak rather than an inability to charge the air reservoir sufficiently. I have read elsewhere that the airbags don't always leak when the car is stood still. If you imagine there's a crack in the rubber, it'll open and close as the spring moves which would make it leak on the move and possibly not at rest.

Three approaches;
- Ignore it until it gets so bad it does actually go down whilst stood still and you can hear it hiss
- try some GOTEC LDS as recommended by Landrover (based on a Google search). You might be able to apply some and then drive it, although not too sure on that as I've never tried it.
- replace both struts. Struts should be replaced in pairs anyway as there is a damper as part of the strut (unless you only replace the airbag itself).

Of course it might not be a leaky bag or valve or pipe. It might be something entirely different.

might give it all a good soaking with soapy water and see if anything obvious turns up. Its an expensive trial and error without any real clue as to the problem. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Good morning... From experience, if you put the car on full height then stand with your back to the front wing and lift the wheel arch (only a couple of inches) if the bag has a hole you will normally hear a hiss when you take the weight off the bag...

That said, most i have seen cannot remain at height when parked overnight...

And yes i aggree, both front airstrutts need to be changed at the same time...

I CAN HELP WITH SUPPLY OF PARTS IF NEEDED...

Craig Thumbs Up
