TBH, anyone who can afford to run a S/C FFRR isn't going to be worried by a garage bill or two.

Dan's probably right, some of the old Jag XJ's used to do this. Keep the tank more than half full and happy days but let the fuel level drop and the pump would overheat. I had 2 XJR's and they both did this. It's not even a tough fix really, tedious but not overly hard work. The pumps aren't overly expensive either when compared to the HP one on a diesel.

Just been to cardiff and back - made sure I had over 1/4 of a tank the whole way and it was fine.

So either the pump is overheating OR the "jet pump" (which pumps from one side to the other) has failed.

Either way - I need a new pump. The whole thing is bought together; left pump, right pump and both senders. In total it's £170 so that's not bad. Probably £30 labour - so £200ish in total.

Looks like a mess of crap:

To be fair I polished & waxed it last weekend Razz

It's getting the engine bay cleaned sometime next week. If it makes it to work.

OK, now I think I've changed my mind on the pump overheating. I think that's just the RRS. I think one of the pickups is not working:

Whilst driving with 1/2 a tank of fuel the gauge shot up to 3/4, then back down after a few miles - somethings obviously not right here. I wonder whether one of the senders has gone wrong - or if one side of the pickup/sender unit has come off of its mountings.

It's at the garage today, I will report back with the results!

sorry to insist , but your car has been going through the same ordeals as my friends SC , ands the only definitive cure was changing the Fuse in the trunk's fuse box i already described to you ......

and a bad fuse could lead to the same symptoms as a bad earth .....
worth trying before buying the whole pump system !!!

So much for me then ... Did you check with the stealer if any soft update was available for your machibne ??? I remember the stealer said to my buddy that when serching for faults on his machine he did a whole batch of software updates which were not performed by the previous LR dealer .....
may also be of use to do that , even if not directlky related to your immediate concern ....
I just hope you find the issues for your truck , i know this can be quite frustraring ;
My buddy hads vbought his from an LR Dealer so even if it was 3 years old , he did take all the work and parts under the used car warranty , it helped for sure ....

I'm not overly concerned - it's frustrating when it happens, but I'm relatively chilled about the whole thing. You cant own a RR and get upset everytime it lets you down!

It needs a SW update to make the 2nd-1st gearchange smoother as it's a little harsh at the mo. If there are any other SW patches to go on I will try and ensure these are done...
