You should try some PlusGas penetrating oil instead of WD 40.

I guess the first owner of the car fitted it in 2007 and it's never been out since, I've only had the car months and off and on I've been trying to remove it since I got it.

Thanks Stan but I bought a 4T bottle jack specially to try that - didn't work but it's better than the dodgy scissor jack that comes with the car so nothing lost |

Might be worth taking the towbar off the car, you could then stand it on it's sides and pour penetrating oil in from both ends. Would also allow you to knock it out from the "far end". |

My detachable towbar won't come out. If I turn the plastic knob, it goes loose but won't actually detach. I just unbolt it from the square section now and use the square blanking grommet when not in use. A pin would be better than a bolt though 02 Vogue |

Have you tried to turn and pull the knob away from the tow bar? |
