Front seat removal

Is it just the 4 bolts holding the slide rails down and a quick unplug of the electrics ? Geoff

four bolts and the one for the seatbelt... if you dont put your keys in the ignition whilst the seat is removed you wont put the airbag fault light on... as suggested above, if you disconnect the battery you dont run any risk... hope this helps... Thumbs Up

You do have to leave the batt connected till you've undone the seat bolts as you have to drive the seat back and forth. Drive the seat back until you can undo the front bolts, undo, then drive the seat fwd again till you can get at the rears. Tilt the backrest fwd and you'll have a balanced package as small as it's going to get. Then undo the rears, disconnect the batt (Follow procedure! Wait for the nav to shut itself off!), disconnect the plugs under the seat and remove by lightly lifting the seat out the front door. Razz

Thanks Steve,

I had been through the procedure in my head and realised that you need the battery connected initially then disconnected before meddling with the wires or disconnecting stuff. I assume that if an air bag fault code did register I could clear it with the IIDTool anyway. Obviously you have done this before, do I need to actually lift the seats out or can I just move them into the back.

I can't do it yet as I've lent my socket set to someone and I can't get it back until Monday Sad

Thanks
Geoff Geoff

i've removed both front seats without dis-connecting the battery...made sure the car was in sleep mode and the key out of the ignition..no airbag warnings at all..

Geoff,
I've not actually had to repair speaker wiring - that was Christian and Patrick on Christian's RR - but if you look at the pics, they had to fold the carpet back to get at the wiring. You'll need to have the seat out to get that far.

The damaged wires are visible in the slot between the aluminum plate and the white plastic cable tunnel cover (just in front of the ratchet).

Stan,
Generally you can do all sorts of things w/o any damage. And Geoff can easily clear an SRS fault with the IIDTool. But by disconnecting the battery you know you're on the safe side. You can shut a windoze computer down by holding the power button for a couple of secs. And you can prob do this quite often w/o damage. But sooner or later you will have a problem. Disconnecting and reconnecting a battery takes only seconds (much less time than a shutdown/reboot of my silly computer takes). And an additional minute to reset everything from clock to seat mems to radio presets. And fixing a prob could potentially take much, much longer. I did this (auto electrics/electronics) professionally for several years. IMO it's not worth it. Wink

you are absolutely correct steve...battery dis-connection is the proper way to do it, i just found it quicker/easier to remove the seat without dis-connecting it..bad habits are hard to get rid of. Wink

Don't sweat this boys, I will disconnect the battery - Health and Safety - and take the seat right out as you suggest Steve.

Stan,
I'm nervous disconnecting the battery but more nervous messing with wires when it's connected, moving the seats out is only to get at the aforementioned wires. Interestingly I had never noticed that the back speakers had stopped working (only the top ones) until the IIDTool told me they had and I checked by sticking my head in the back, it's obviously normally in the front - my head that is Very Happy

I actually found last time that disconnecting the battery is a sort of reset for some suff, a bit like rebooting a computer.

Last Orders beckons

Cheers Geoff
