Central locking on my 2004 td6 has been working correctly both with the key fob and key as described in the handbook.
Today went to town supermarket, locked car with key fob as normal.
When I came to un-lock the car with the fob nothing happened.
Tried a few times still nothing.
Unlocked car with key, opened door, alarm went off. Tried switching alarm off using un-lock key on fob, nothing. Switched off alarm by putting key into ignition and turning to position 2. No indication on display of low fob battery level.
When I got home, locked the car as normal with fob, and then unlocked it with fob as normal. The locking is now working correctly again.
I still lock and unlock the car from in the house as before.
Anybody come across this fob discrepancy themselves when unlocking?
Been to the same store many times before, never had any problems.
Vehicle battery in good condition and fully charged.
The only thing I can think that was different today was there is a lot of construction work going on adjacent to the carpark with a number of portable handheld radios being used. Could this have caused the problem?
I'd be grateful for any thoughts or opinions.

does sound like the two way radios on the site..car remotes work on 433mhz and business two way radios also work around that frequency .. ..............................

I had the exact same problem the other day - stepped out of house and tried to unlock the car with the fob, and got nothing. Tried and tried but had to use the key in the end. Then it worked fine. I even tried the spare fob but again, got nothing.

I suspected the problem was that for a unknown reason the code generated by the key got out of sync with the car, so the car ignored it. They have a 'rolling code' system to stop the signal being intercepted and repeated to gain unauthorised access. I theorize that using the key to open the lock allows the two to resynchronize again.

When I checked error codes using my RAC, I had a "key code tolerance increased" error logged. I have seen this error before though so it may be unrelated.

I think it's just one of those things - occasionally the car and key will get out of sync (button pressed too many times in pocket whilst away from car?). Unlocking with the key sorts it out.

Thanks for that, in a perverse way it's good to find someone who has had the same occurence. Its re-assuring that even if it's not a one off, the solution is as simple as opening the door with a key and resetting the fob synch.
At least I hopefully won't find myself locked out of the car at an inconvenient moment wondering what magic the AA can perform to get in the car.
I did have visions of having to ask the adjacent contractors to stop using their radios when I was in the vicinity.
Don't think that would have gone down too well.

It's odd that when it happened to me I had a few moments of panic that I couldn't get into the car and it was they day before I had to go on a specific journey for which I had a day off from work and had already paid my £200 entry fee for the event. Then I remembered how things used to be and that the car actually had a keyhole and a key to go with it !!

Seems I was not alone.
