Wood door cappings on 2007 MY ?

Hi all

I just realised after about 6 weeks of ownership that my 2007 MY TDV8 Vogue has plastic door cappings instead of wood to match the interior wood choice like what was on my 2003 Vogue, why is that?. I would have thought better over the years not cheaper?
