Front wheel bearings

Has anyone done one at home yet at all as mine seem a bit noisy?

I've got to jack her up and have a good feel but price seems to be about £30 each side.

I've done some on other cars before where it's a hub off and press out job but being a much bigger vehicle bet they weigh a tonne!

Any advice greatly welcomed Smile

It's straight forward enough if you can use spanners and have access to a hydraulic press. I removed the complete assembly from the vehicle. You need to remove transverse and compression links, track rod end, bottom strut bolts brake caliper and slider, disc, and anything I have forgotten....Remove driveshaft hub nut and press driveshaft out of hub leaving it attached to the vehicle (this is a very tight fit and you will need something like an air hammer to push it through. Next from the rear of the assembly press out the hub and the wheel bearing will be seen. I cut part through the seats with a cut off tool and chisel them off. You need a proper press to refit them and ensure they are in properly.

The hub nut is a 36mm 12 point socket.

Cheers fella Smile

I think i'm going to have to get somewhere to do it as i don't have an air hammer and while i could do the majority of it i'd still need to get it to a local place with a press to get the old out and new in Sad

Maybe i'll see if i can find one of those garages that rent out lifts and tools and do it there. They were featured on 5th gear a few years back but haven't seen any pop up at all Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

actually a quick 5 minute google shows there is a rent a ramp type place about 40mins from me so even with fuel factored in i reckon about 3 hours to do the job and if they have a press and tools onsite that may save me about £100 including the bearing Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Please be warned! They can be a real s Censored t... You get one that wants to fight you and its a pig all the way through!

Check your driveshaft nut has not corroded to nothing before you attempt, the lower shockmount bolts will move and you will definately need a large press for the driveshaft, they never tap out!

This place in holmewood i think it just off the M1 has an onsite mechanic on hand apparently so i'll sound them out just to see as if its cheap hourly rental i could probably book it for a fair while and still come in quids cheaper as its only £15 to get there and back in fuel... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

If you rent a ramp in Holmewood, I'd be interested to know how you get on, as its only 10 or 15 mins from me.....

Cheers
