For other cars I've had the best results with Pistonheads (Alfa 75 and MX5), with the MX5 on Autotrader I had zero calls and it cost me £70 Evil or Very Mad FFRR owner by proxy

Had 4 offers on ebay but a bit lower than what i wanted. If you want the price that a stealer would give you go on ebay (youll get a tad more)

I was watching a car sale on ebay last night, the vendor (a dealer) had it advertised on his own website at £6495.00. Some 25 minutes before the auction ended it was at £5250.00 and within the last few minutes of the auction the car reached the heady heights of £8435.00 Shocked

I have sold 2 newish defenders on eBay and had no trouble at all. Pistonheads is great to look at but I got hardly any response. When looking for a FFRR the ones I looked at on autotrader were all sold but adverts had not been taken off.

Well i've had my mums C2 on ebay for just over the average selling price on the bay, its got lower milage and is mint in and out, new tyres, FSH....

But only had a few offers and both well below the average condition trade price for it Sad

its a classified on ebay mind, so if it doesnt sell it will get a round on gumtree next week and pistonheads as well and then finally just get put on the bay and if it doesn't make a decent price, well......

Ebay on Buy it Now or best offer and Pistonheads, both have never failed me yet.

Tried Autotrader a few times years ago, even before the eBay boom and thought it was crap. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Just been thinking about what you said, and i think you're right!

Autotrader is really becoming irrelevant now. Prices to advertise are way too high, for too short a timespan. Also you get far fewer eyes on your ad on auto trader.

People are put off ebay by 'time wasters' etc, but do you really get any fewer on Autotrader? It really all comes down to what sort of car you're selling, when you sell at the bottom end it does attract the scallies!

Pistonheads is certainly good for anything specialist, where people are going to be looking for a well cared for example (assuming what you're selling fits the bill!).

Autotrader is probably going to die out in the next few years, unless they really change and become more relevant - they don't even get good prices, now, half the time the same cars are fetching more on ebay! 2006 Supercharged

I put the wife's old Landcruiser on Pistonheads at less than retail but more than trade-in.

Literally within minutes I got calls from some quite dodgy types wanting to come over and pay cash to take it then and there. As I hadn't taken the cherished plate off, I told them very politely to bog off as I wasn't ready to sell until I'd done the paper work (I thought it would take a week or so for people to notice the ad). They became very aggressive and obnoxious. I decided I didn't want any of them to have it. I took it down until I was ready to sell (but in the end a mate bought it so it never went up).

Personally I think the second hand car market is tricky at the moment, the buyers simply aren't there Sad FFRR owner by proxy
