Do i already have digital TV??

This is probably a stupid questions but...

I have a 07 FFRR Supercharged.
Have been reading the forums about analogue tv reception ending and how digital is superior etc etc. Sent a coupld of email to tv-in-motion about their digital upgrade but they never responded... While waiting for the missus the other day i found the 'auto' button in the tv tuner and lo and behold i got loads of channels like Dave, E4, 4 Music etc. The reception seems to be crap but there are loads of channels there - so does this mean i already have digital?
Thanks Very Happy

It surely does. Mine's a 2007 and the TV is Freeview. In a strong signal area the picture's not at all bad, but elsewhere it's near-useless AND you get very few channels. Graham

i have upgraded to the genuine digital tuner earlier this year. i have all the channels tuned in for my home area and use the auto button when i go out of my transmitter area.

we don't go onto digital until next year and i can get loads of channels already and good quality pictures too.

i find you know when it's a good signal because the now and next menu comes up on the lower part of the screen. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

you need to keep an eye out on ebay and give "Wiggs" a shout. he is the forum member who gets hold of the hardware.

there is a couple of posts with all the information you need in them.

as far as money goes, these were being sold for £300, which i know is a fair chunk of money, but when you look at the asking price at L/R for one of these it seems rather cheap!!!

also it is plug and play with no messing about.

good luck. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Digital tuner

Stu just managed to bag me a digital tuner on fleebay, have discounted the old one and tried it works well. Now for the difficult part, how does the old one come out and new one in its place? I have ahd a look but can not work out which bits to undo etc. Is it a big strip down?

Thanks

Here are the instructions I received when I bought mine...

Be patient!

1. Take out the spare cover from the boot
2. Take out the plastic AV floor cover on the LHS this will give you better access to the all the AV equipment
3. Remove the key from the ignition and wait for 2 mins.
4. Prepare to remove everything, you HAVE to take the whole thing out to get at the mounting bolts.
5. Remove the mounting bolts as discussed here: http://files.me.com/stevegt/rql3cm (this was a life saver).
6. You'll be able to disconnect some of the modules and remove. Put them to one side somewhere safe.
7. Lift the frame out and everything still attached in one go. To do this you'll have to unplug it all. Don;t be afraid at this point it will all go back together (as long as you get the plugs in the right places.

Then you can change the tuner and put it all back.

Once I realised I had to take the whole thing out and got on with it took minutes.

FYI. You'll need a good socket set and a various star bits for your driver.

to be honest you don't need to take the old one out, i didn't.

they are pretty worthless these days in my opinion, so i just left it in there. there is more than enough room to place the digital box in the hole with the original one.

i got some alcohol wipes and cleaned the casing of the anologue box, then bought some heavy duty velcro and stuck one side to the old box and the other side to the new digital box and it has been in there since earlier this year with no problems, i have even been green laning a couple of times and banged the old girl about and it just sticks in there.

the other thing is that when i sell the RR i can just undo the plugs and pull the boxes apart and the car is back to standard with no worries and i have my digital box back in 30 seconds. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Can only fit it next to the analogue one if you don't have RSE as the control module for RSE sits there Stu...

Well just fitted my Digital tuner in the back in place of the old analogue one. What a bitch of a job, could not have done it with the instructioins that i was kindly given, but even then it was not easy. All was well until you have to het the plugs out the logic 7 amp, the bottom two just simply would not come out and i could not see for the life of me how they did. So sat down , had a coffe and then mananged to swing the unit around with cables still in. Put it all back together, checked the sound system, sat nav, phone etc all ok, then sat in the car and watched freeview, signal was good and now have loads of channels.

So therefore thanks for all your help and advice dont think i could have done it with out Thumbs Up
