I just spent half term week in Scotland with the family. As for where to visit, it depends on what you're interested in.

There are more castles than you can shake a stick at, loads of good restaurants pubs etc. Some interesting museums, loads of amazing ancient sites, standing stones etc. Oh and lots of mountains, with some amazing scenery, and lovely drives.

I think you need to decide want you want to be doing (e.g visiting castles, romping up mountains etc), then you can decide on a region, which you can then research to plan out your days.

We were in Mull of Kintyre, which was great, though I wouldn't head back there for a weekend, since it's not that easy to get to. Thumbs Up 2006 Supercharged

i'd be looking for great scenery, good restuarants and pubs, like all the ancient sites aswell.
won't be romping up any mountains though Laughing

Something thats probably not to remote though as i'm not sure how my focus would cope up in Scotland that time of year. www.duckworthparts.co.uk

I note Greg P is going to Jersey, put it on the list with Brussels - he won't go back.
Cologne is fairly nice as is Amsterdam. Geoff

It all depends on what you are after Smile

+1 for Florence - good steak, plenty to see and do including the statue of David and the tower of Pisa

Venice is another option as it will be carnival in February. Hotels are expensive during the carnival and the place is heaving with tourists.

Barcelona is an easy option

Scotland - Aviemore or other villages around the Cairngorn mountains? There should still be some snow on the ground in Feb. Loch Ness is less than an hour away. If you were going in April, you could visit the Cragganmore distillery which is about 20 minutes away.

If you were thinking of April/May, I would have suggested Amalfi (with a drive along the beautiful coast line) just south of Naples. Paul
