Out of interest, how easy is it to fit the side steps myself? Bearing in mind I am pretty useless with most things maintenance wise but am prepared to give anything a go as long as I can't break my car!

Just had a reply from Admiral - £44.75 to have side steps fitted and if they're not an optional extra they're not covered in the event of a claim!!

I take it they are an optional extra in the same way as mud flaps and tow bars?

hmmm, not sure.
They are of course an "optional extra" as is anything you can add on or buy later. However knowing what insurance companies are like they may wriggle out of it because the side steps are not fitted in the factory. They are usually fitted by a supplying dealer aftyer the car is built.

I think as long as you've told them and you're happy to pay the extra you know you're covered for an accident. You'll probably never get your money back from the insurers for a total write off, 'cause they'll only ever give you "market value". It's just the worry if you're in an accident, then your insurer says "oh we're not covering you because the accident was caused by you having an extra fitted we didn't know about".
Even though that's a load of old b...ll..ks.
You just have to play the game, tell them, pay the money & then you should be fine. Thumbs Up

Fookin insurance companies are a shower of robbin bastids.

I spent the past two days getting quotes, half them don't call back, the ones that do quote three times the 'normal' rate and the others are in the middle of India and don't understand the Scots language Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I had the Mercs and Audi through Laurie Ross brokers, called them today and asked them to post my proof of NCB, they asked why and I told them I had a cheaper quote, they said they would price match it, so I said that if they couldn't give me their best price first time I wasn't interested.........They're the losers Thumbs Up

Didn't get them to improve the look , got them to avoid grab handles getting pulled off thru time and seat leather getting gubbed with people sliding in and out … Thumbs Up also to assist elderly relatives …. Rolling Eyes ====================================

I have mine insured with Tesco. They charged me £15 to change the policy from my old Audi to the RR but no increase in premium. They also said there would be no charge for changes to the registration, which is just as well because it will be have three different plates this month!!

I agree, but insurers trying to charge higher premiums because of them is simply robbery.
