Whistling at motorway speeds

Evening Guys,

When I drive my Range Rover at motorway speeds (anything over 50 mph) I tend to get a whistle of air coming through; I have no idea where from. Is this normal?

If Yes, then I think I read somewhere that the 2010 Range Rover had upgraded door seals which minimised the noise further. Any experience of this, or is it just a myth?

If Not, any ideas as to where it could be coming from (windscreen, rubber seals)?

Thanks in advance,

i had this on my 04 last week, turned out to be the center air vent being in the half on/half off position.Either way (fullon or off) cured the whistle??

Check the plastic rivets in the trim on the A pillar.

They are removed for windscreen replacement and if they are not all refitted with the middle pin flush they can make a noise.

I have such a noise , it comes from the windscreen changed just before I bought my FF. I'll have a look at these rivets.
IanV8, are they easy to find on the pillar ?

I get this in my car when the temperature wheel in the centre console is moved from red (hot setting) to blue (cold setting).

No idea why, but when it's in the middle position, there's a whistle through the air vents. All I need to do is move it slighty either way and the noise disappears! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

This ^^^
The external black finishers will give a whistle if they aren't fitted properly.

Thanks for the replies,

It is not the center air vent being in the half on/half off position, as I tend to have it on the red hot option at this time of the year.

I think it may be these rivets on the A Pillar, this may sound like a really silly question but how on earth do I rectify the rivet faults? Any instructions available?

Thanks again,

Try the plastic at bottom of windscreen if screen has been replaced like mine its possible they did'nt seal between bottom of screen and plastic trim. I used some black silicone sealant and that sorted my issue no noise at all now. Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

When you open the front doors thay are facing you as they go in from the rear.

They are black plastic and when new have the inner sticking out, you push them into the hole and then tap the middle bit which drives in and forces the rivet to tighten in the hole.

To get old ones out you can either tap the inner bit all the way in, might end up with it rattling around though, or drill a small hole and use a self tapper to pull it out.

It was a windscreen fitter mate you told me to check they were all there.

If the screen has been replaced the fitters may have used metal rivets to refit (they did on mine)

Afternoon Gents,

Ok I have diagnosed the wind noise as some faulty retaining clips; there are eight clips on each of the two side, four yellow plugs and four plastic clips. Also the strip that runs from the rear to the front (where the roof bars normally fix to) had become loose in the front so a bit of sealant has sorted the noise from one side.

I will take pictures of the procedure when I do the other side and post them up after the weekend, I also have the part numbers for the clips which I will post up.

On the side that I did repair, all four of the plastic black clips were broken and some of the yellow clips had no foam rings on them. Now just have to do the same with the other side (I ran out of yellow clips as LR dealer told me there are only 2 on each side, but there are 4).

Hope this helps

Picked my 2010 vogue today, used the check list care of Matthew Stevenson Thanks Matt, everything checked out ok called the Land Rover dealer who originally sold and serviced the vehicle about the recall on front diff was advised only 2002 -2003 were recalled mine had the new diff so no recall was required, drove down the A12 from Chelmsford Saxton 4x4 and was getting a horrible wind noise, from the front screen. I've checked this forum on wind noise and I suspect the windscreen has been replaced so will be checking bells and whistles on the screen tomorrow sounds like it's something trivial

Check the black bits on the A pillar at tight to the screen. Although my 2010 was a 2 year old approved used when I bought, they were loose and caused noise - had them fixed under warranty (suspect it was just some clips)
