An interesting mail from Taggarts

Got this mail today from Taggarts, Looks like quite a good deal. Anyone see any holes it it?

" You have the option of either paying for your services annually or alternatively taking out a Taggarts Land Rover service plan whereby you pay an initial sum of £ 361.07 for this service as opposed to the retail cost of £ 524.99 then making a rolling monthly payment of just £37.47 to cover future services. This can run for a maximum of 4 services and is fully transferrable to a new vehicle should you wish to replace your current Range Rover .

This is purely a pre-payment plan ( not a finance agreement ) and any payments made in to the account remain yours until the vehicle is serviced ensuring you never end up in a negative equity situation. If you decide to change the vehicle for a brand which we do not service here at Taggarts, you can simply cancel the plan and have any unused funds paid back to yourself.

In addition to the reduced servicing costs your MOT’s are carried out free of charge along with other benefits.

I trust this meets your requirements and I look forward to welcoming you back to Taggarts Land Rover." Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I love a well balanced debate! Rolling with laughter

I guess it works both ways, it's convenient for me and gives them return business. I suppose the main question is wether it's good deal or not? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

You have credit risk to the dealer too.

Not sure what you mena by a credit risk?
Do you mean that in the event you move your RR on, there is a positive balance that you can't use assuming you don't buy another RR? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

No, he means you carry some risk. If the dealer goes pop, he takes your cash with him. You're effectively loaning him money and getting an interest rate for it (the saving).

Yeah I kinda see what he means now, sort of!

So the main question is wether that risk (albeit small IMO) is offset by the potential saving and convenience of the offer? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

So the payments are for basic servicing, any 'extras' I presume are charged separately?

What is the "saving"?

4*524.99 = 2099.96

361.07 + (47 * 37.47) = 2122.16

Not sure if I've interpreted the letter correctly though. Is it 47 payments for a full four years rolling?

I've mailed them to ask that very question! Since the service schedule calls for differing types of service, I want to know if the payments cover each service type as per the service schedule and not just a "basic" plus any supplements. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Correct. If the dealer goes bust, you will be an unsecured creditor. Unlikely but it can happen. The fact that they are structuring it this way worries me to be honest. Could be a simple offer to help clients afford servicing by spreading the cost but, being suspicious, it just makes me think they need working capital...

Dealers are going bust at the moment, so be wary.
