I have a friend who lives over in California and has lost the one and only key for her 1999 P38 Range Rover...

...her local dealer has said it will take over a month for a new one to be delivered and cost about $400

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions that might allow me to assist her by sourcing one in UK on her behalf? - if not cheaper maybe quicker than the length of time they are quoting ?

Maybe put her in touch with Dan @ Duckers as he would need some copies of documents sending to him at the least i imagine (even though its only a P38!!).

If it were me i'd also say the key could only be dispatched to that address on the document as well

I still only have one key with mine, and after reading this post I really should get down to the local stealers and get another just in case Reformed

RRUK - Being the female of the species i'm sure she already knows everything there is to know already After buying a P38 against my advice I would be better off ... In all fairness though, she has only had the car a couple of weeks and the private seller she bought it from had assured her there was a second set and would forward them on to her once they found them...shes still trying to get hold of him

Kingpleb - I only found out this evening so will talk to the main dealers tomorrow (will contact Dan during business hours) - I have already warned her that there may be a problem with security authorisation etc and suggested she would be better of having complete lockset replaced (if only to avoid having to wait so long) rather than spend $$$ for a single replacement key

Security on the p38 key is linked to BECM, not the locks. I think you can start the vehicle if you have a key and the EKA code without the remote fob. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Andy_J - Thanks for advice - all i meant by security authorisation was proof of ownership when ordering a key

Delamo - I think we have both missundersttod each other, I was trying to say that changing the locks would not help as it is BECM/remote fob that controls the imobiliser not the key/lock. You can enter the EKA code (emergency Key Access) to dissarm the vehicle via the key and drivers lock if you don't hav the remote fob, but this woul only work as a temporary measure 56 TDV8 Vogue SE
