Had my Full Fat remapped today - SORT OF..!

So - JF Automotive turned up this morning at 9am on the dot to do a remap on the RR.

I pulled the car out of the garage and placed it nicely in the middle of the drive for him. Nice chilly morning so offered him a coffee. He said no and that he'll just get on with it to keep warm....

30 minutes later... Knock knock.... erm.... your car has already been remapped at some point sir but all they have done is upped the fuel intake to the injectors by 50%. Surprised you havn't blown an injector or 4..! Would you like us to fix it for you....

Yes please I said and opted for the fuel economy with a bit of performance upgrade (kinda 50/50)

OK - and off he trotted...

30 minutes later... Knock knock... erm... because of the previous remap and the way to was done your ecu has now locked out and won't accept any new map files. Afraid we're going to have to send it to head office for them to sort for us...!!!!

he then removed the ecu to take with him and we spent half an hour trying to push the RR out of the way so I could get my other car out to use (at least till Tuesday when he said he would have the ecu back to me!)

So - all in all a pretty crap day.. Hopefully they will sort it and have it back to me or I can see the conversation going... Sorry sir, we can't fix this but it;s not our fault because it was tampered with already...! But I'll hold that thought until I hear from them on Tuesday.

Big Cry Ash

Im not trying to stick the knife in but that is Censored , if he was a tuner with a record of tuning this model and the relevent tools to back himself up he could have done many things including using his supporting tools which all decent tuners should have to make the car original tuning before he started thus deleting its original tune it already had.

Also if he was able to read it originally to state that the fueling was wrong then he has had access to the ecu to get this knowlage and so should program it accordingly, It sounds like to me he had a ECU write fail that he could not repair which is he has had to send the ecu off for repair to head office of which I hope for you fix it.

Sorry if this post if uncalled for but I beleive you are getting told a load of crap to cover a mistke that was made by the tuner causing the ecu to refuse access.

This is not you or your cars or the previous tuners fault 100%, so dont take the blame, sometimes things do happen that tuners dont foresee but they should be honest and hold their hands up without passing the blame.

Pete

PS it seems they have only been going since May this year which isnt very reasuring in my opinion.

A similar thing happend to my brothers TVR, an automative electrical engineer took part of his alarm / imobiliser away about a month ago and he's not come back since. The cars now undrivable but thankfully its tucked up warm in his garage.

As the previous owner of a TVR (a 350i double plenum, since you ask) I can confirm that this is pretty normal... Whistle Graham

Thanks Guys - That makes me feel a whole lot better.... Big Cry

Seriously - I think he must have bought some kind of franchise as his head office is viezu (http://www.viezu.com/) so Guess he is really just a distributor of theirs.

He told me the guy from "head office" said from the map fie he sent off it looks like the previous owner has had something soldered to the main board which caused the lock out. How he would know I;m not sure but Im no expert..! (it does;t sound like he was either)

He did tell me that if they could;t sort it they would put a new (although I suspect "another") ecu in instead.

We shall see on Tuesday. Ash

Suggest when he brings it back he reads into ( and learns!) BOOT mode on the EDC15 ecu which would of been able to recover the vehicle on the spot with the ECU out of the vehicle. Unless it had a chip soldered into it which normally prevents them reading it. But hey that's why you have a soldering station as a backup! Used to have:
2005 FFRR 4.4 Vogue - BRC LPG Conversion & Remapped

Now have:
2008 SSRR 3.6 TDV8 - HSE and plenty of toys

Update - ecu came back from viezu and the chap turned up to refit... Still nothing... engine would not start.

He sent the error codes off to viezu who then said that superchips (who did the original remap) have also written to the gearbox ecu (??) and they now won't talk to one another...!!

ECU out again and being sent back to viezu who will add a new file that on start up will write to the gearbox ecu and fix it... (or something like that.) To be honest, it went a bit passed me what is actually being done and I've quite frankly lost interest now.

So - I am again without the RR until at least Friday assuming they can get it overnight to viezu, recoded and then back to him for Friday to then come and refit. I hope it will all be worth it in the end.!

Not really sure I should be paying for all this now (although they are all making the right noises to fix it) Ash
