My wheels are worn!

Had a puncture the other morning, put the spare on threw the punctured tyre in the boot. Knew that it really wanted replacing as it was pretty worn along the edge, also I knew the other side was down to the indicators aswell. Took it in to have a couple of tyre fitted, left one wheel/tyre and went to work, phone rings, "we have a problem, your wheel is worn", I laugh thinking it was some kind of joke, but no my wheel has really worn! They wont take the other tyre off incase the wheel is the same and wont fit tyres to the wheels because of the obvious saftey issue.

Has anyone had this problem??
The tyre fitters say this is a common problem??

I will try to attach a picture if I can brave going outside again.....to see what people think

The wheels are genuine Land Rover 18".

Now trying to source a wheel or set! Running with no spare for 4 days now and think I pushing my luck!

I have an 18" wheel for sale. It used to be my spare before I bought a full new set. It's the Five spoke type and virtually brand new, fitted with a Goodyear Wrangker HP was has only been used for a few miles (still got all the pimples on the tyre). I will post a picture if you are interested. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Thanks Mick for the link might be interested in those, I might have a set coming up from a customer of mine who is only 20miles away. Thumbs Up
Thanks Mickeyjd again might be interested just trying to find something local first. Thumbs Up

Not sure what the other wheels are like until I get another tyre pulled, they might all be like it!
It's really thin on the inside edge!
I wonder what caused it? My last tyres were cheapo Nexan tyres but I can't believe that would be the cause.

The wear is rippled but not rough, it does not look like it's been running on the road itself...
The outside edge is OK except were I photographed. So that edge show very little signs of Damage/wear.
The edge were the beading goes is slightly rough/sharp but that is lower than the edge itself.

The fitters claim it is wear, and that the Discoverys, Rangies and Mercs suffer it??? (I have never heard it before!)

Obviously there is a chance that it has been run on a puncture within its life at some point...

It looks like the tyre changing machine didn't clamp properly and the wheel started "sliding" through the clamp brackets and one of the brackets did this ??? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I doubt that - the marks would seem to be in the wrong direction for that to happen, and furthermore the tyre machine usually has plastic jaw covers on it to stop the alloy from being marked. I'd go with the running on a flat tyre conclusion.

Interestingly the worn area is not flat it is curved, so on reflection that would indeed suggest something other than running on the road surface.

The punctured tyre-wall would have been against the rim, therefore the marks as you see

"the tyre fitter said it was a known problem" - yes the pimple faced 15 year old part time apprentice really should stop giving personal opinions to customers.......

+1 for the fire
