hum, just had a new battery put in as a precaution. Banner - Running bull (with AGM), 92ah and 850. It's the same as what was taken out and both done by L/R. I asked and they said this was correct!.

might be ok for a petrol but the td6 needs more ooomphhhhh.. ..............................

Hi again folks.
Ok, finally got hold of a 110 a/h battery and fitted it. All seemed ok, all instruments working and radio display back to reading English.
However, today i'm getting 'trans fail safe prog' warning coming on and it keeps loosing power.
Is this related to the battery? Why is it doing it now.

did you set the steering parameters after putting the new battery on, if so you might have to get a dealer to read/clear some codes .. ..............................

No mate could you elaborate on that please.
Am reluctant to go to the dealer, last time they wanted over1k to sort an oil leak. Did it myself by changing crankcase breather for 40 quid!!

dis-connect the battery, leave for an hour or so and re-connect....start the engine and then turn the steering wheel fully left then fully right, this sets the steering parameters and in most cases gets rid of that error.... ..............................

Do you mean drive or engine? That is does the engine stop running properly or do you lose drive to the wheels. Two very different things, and the second one is an indication that the gearbox is on the way out! If lucky a gearbox oil and filter change may resolve this for the time being, but if you find lots of swarf/glitter in the oil then prepare for the worst. Does the gearbox switch to and stick in a single gear?

Alternatively it could simply be a sensors problem as scarey suggests. If the fault won't go away it may need to be cleared by a diagnostics tool.

Yes mate it selects gears ok. Am hoping its electrical. Will try and get to an auto electrician at the weekend. Hopefully the gearbox is ok!!!

Ok the warning hasnt come on again for a while.
What happens is occasionally when i go to move off from a junction, roundabout etc, still in D nothing happens, the engine just revs.
Turn engine off, back on again, reslect drive and off it goes!!!
Should i expect the worst/

I had exactly the same on my TD6 last year and it turned out to be water ingress in the rear left hand side and was shorting the plugs out on the TV unit , amps etc. Took all plugs off all electrical equipment and dried and cleaned and it cured all those issues (oh and my battery was also 3-4 months old). Good luck

As Joe 90 says,you many be lucky with an oil change and flush, but I'm sure your gearbox is stuffed- probaly will need overhaul or replacement, within 6-9 months, if not sooner.
This hesitation to move off( as if no power available) is a dead sure symptom, of impending failure. This will be followed by the transmission failsafe mode message, and occasional missed or incorrect gear change now and then, with eventually, a locked transmission,and a warning"gear oil temp hot".
