did you set the steering parameters after putting the new battery on, if so you might have to get a dealer to read/clear some codes .. ..............................

dis-connect the battery, leave for an hour or so and re-connect....start the engine and then turn the steering wheel fully left then fully right, this sets the steering parameters and in most cases gets rid of that error.... ..............................

Yes mate it selects gears ok. Am hoping its electrical. Will try and get to an auto electrician at the weekend. Hopefully the gearbox is ok!!! |

I had exactly the same on my TD6 last year and it turned out to be water ingress in the rear left hand side and was shorting the plugs out on the TV unit , amps etc. Took all plugs off all electrical equipment and dried and cleaned and it cured all those issues (oh and my battery was also 3-4 months old). Also check your selector is working properly. Check the wiki for this.

As Joe 90 says,you many be lucky with an oil change and flush, but I'm sure your gearbox is stuffed- probaly will need overhaul or replacement, within 6-9 months, if not sooner.
