Sorry for the late reply. I spoke with the mechanic and he confirmed it was over the rear o/s suspension arm. Unfortunately we did not have time to pop it back on the ramp for a photo sessio ...

I think it was thick rubber. I'm seeing the friend [mechanic] who did it on Wednesday - certainly access was limited, it was up on the ramp, i will try and get photos of it and a very full explanation ...

Nick,
The existing pipe was cut, about 1cm iirc, and joined. It was then covered with a thick piece of rubber which was secured.
