United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver
My 2004 TD6

Hello all,

New member but been reading the forums since I bought my FFRR in December 2010.

Mine is a silver 2004 Vogue Td6. All pretty standard apart from the 20'' stormer style alloys. I've been meaning to change them for a while but I put brand new rubber on them all round last year and want to use them up before I buy a set of std 19''. The previous owner had also put some rather nasty chrome door handle, grill and side vent covers on. I've managed to get the door handle ones off but the glue on the vents and grill is a bit tough - waiting for a dry day to get a hair dryer on them.

FFRR ownership has been very rewarding but far from cheap! Over the last year I've had the following attended to:

4 new tyres (Hankook Ventus 275/40/20) - £700
Steering rack - £900
New transmission - £1800
New transfer motor box - £800
New air suspension compressor - £forgotten
New boot seal - £forgotten
+ a fair few other bits that I've forgotten about.

However, I still absolutely love it. I'm a bit of a car nut and have had some tasty metal over the years - the FFRR is by far and away the best modern car I've ever had though. It gets used properly too - where I live in North Yorkshire there is nary a mountain or lane that I've not had a crack at driving up.

I also shoot a lot so it is often used in the winter as a gun bus for the chaps.

A few obligatory snaps...

Also, not FFRR related, this is my other hobby. I race a Citroen DS in long distance European rallies...

Hello, and welcome.

Those Stormer alloys really suit your FFRR's exterior colour. Thumbs Up

Love the DS!!! When time, do tell more about it. Si. <This is my name.

Cheers chaps.

Those pics are actually the 'cleaner' ones I've got. The Rangie is normally in a bit of a state. Externally that is, I'm a bit fastidious about keeping it pristine inside for some reason.

As for the DS - probably not the place here but I kept a blog of the restoration - http://citroen-ds-restoration.blogspot.com for anyone who is interested.

Cheers,

Ben

Very nice set of chevrons there, do you subscribe to citroenian at all or pop onto the FCF at all?? What engine does it have and is it tweaked for the rallies?

Like you I think some of the chrome stuff goes a bit to OTT on a nice FFRR. Are you going to get body coloured ones to cover them up when you take them off?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Hi Neil,

I was wrong, mine are actually the 275/45/20, not the 40 profile. I've just pulled the invoice, I paid £650 inc VAT and fitting at my local tyre place.

They've had a good 15k on them now and I must say that I am very impressed. Grip is good on and offroad, road noise is not bad at all. I spent a lot of time on wheel balance and alignment to avoid scrubbing the crap out of them with messed up geometry. It is hard to be specific but I reckon they've only worn by 2-3mm over 15k. I'd be surprised if I don't get 25-30k out of them.

Ride quality is ok I guess but then I don't really want 20'' wheels on mine and when these Hankooks have given up I will sell the wheels and tryres and get a set of std 19''s.

Ta. Yes, I'm a member of the CCC and get the Citronian. Is FCF a French car club?

As for the FFRR, the chrome door handles are coming off leaving the std grey ones underneath which I quite like. The vents are stuck over the originals with sticky pads too but getting them off is proving to be a right bitch. Planning to use the wife's hairdryer on them to see if they'll come away.
