NEXEN ? NANKANG or Part Worn

Times are hard, Need some rubber for the 20" wheels ive now got, but what tyres on a budget. As i need 5

Have been quotes £107 a corner for Nexen and found a site on the net doing Nankang SP5 for £102. People at work have used a company near to us for Part worn's and have recommended them, these came in at £50 a corner.

Do i go cheap New or Part worn well known make ? Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

Unless its something to get you by for a couple of months. Personally, I'd go with the new tyres for the reason that even at half price, you'll still need to be replacing them in half the time. V8 or else ...

got 4 nexens and they are fine, wear good and grip the road ok..the only bad point is that they have a thinner sidewall ..

try ebay , sometimes you can get a set of 4 for a reasonable price.. ... - .- -.

With the chance to have a look at what I was buying (and assuming they weren't repaired or damaged), I'd be far happier with something like Scorpion Zeroes with 6mm of tread than some budget rubbish with 9mm.

After all, everyone else is driving around on part-worn tyres too.

If you need to safe cash, do it on anything BUT tyres!

this is the only thing between your car and tarmac!

think of it as the thing that grips and hold on tarmac when you brake.

what about you buy 4 good branded one this month, and wait a couple of months to get the 5th? l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

As above, the last thing I'd be scrimping on is tyres - you don't need to read too many tyre tests to see that the budget brands are often budget for good reason.

...and at the same time many motorists are very happy with the products especially nexen who are one of koreas biggest tyre manufactures and have been producing tyres for 60 years......
i had 22 years in the tyre trade and yes i came across rubbish tyres but that was many years ago ...now tyres are precision made and the only major differences are tyre compounds...
as i quoted before , nexens tend to have slightly thinner side walls but that makes the tyre a more comfortable ride...
look at contis, a premium make but the tyres wear on the edges..is that worth paying more... ... - .- -.

^ Agree with you here Stan ...Had Nexens on a Shogun which got dogs abuse on the farm never once had a puncture and lasted 22000 miles before having to change them... if thats budget tyres then they definitely get my vote!! Thumbs Up

I suppose the point is that I don't have the luxury of trying many different tyres on my car and then choosing the ones which perform the best and which I prefer - until I can do that, I'll go with the consensus of the testers and any other objective information available, and not entirely subjective user reports.

Whilst not every cheap tyre is a Linglong nowadays (e.g. Hankook are now an OEM supplier to MINI), I'll stick to the "premium" brands unless someone can demonstrate why a budget tyre is better. I'll bet that Nankangs and whatever else are demonstrably inferior in any sort of test situation to anything Land Rover stuck on at the factory.

Not getting a puncture and lasting forever don't necessarily mean that a tyre is "good".

^ Trommel I should have also said that they handled very well and I never had any issues braking in wet or dry even with a 3 ton trailer hooked on the back...Don't think anyone here is trying to tell you that you must fit new budget tyres and that you are in anyway daft for considering part worn, if that's your choice and your happy with them great Thumbs Up
