Blimey - expensive tyres!!

Out of interest I just called my local tyre supplier for a price for the tyres on my new (well new to me!) TDV8. They are 255/50 R20V Pirelli Scorpions. I was quoted £265 each inc fitting and Vat. My last RR had 255/60 R18 and were only £140 (and I thought they were dear!)

What are you guys paying and what brands are best for 255/50 R20? I travel around so can collect tyres when I need them from pretty well anywhere!

Also how do you clean the fingerprints off the satnav screen. I have the Dual-view screen if that makes any difference. TDV8 3.6 2010 Santorini Black / Jet Interior

Evoke 2013 (wife's) Santorini black, black leather, huge wheels, all the bits.....lucky girl!

Binks ... there are plenty of tyre threads on here discussing alternatives to the big names such as yours.

Personally, I'm not convinced that Pirelli and similar at almost double the cost offer double the performance.

I'm a bit of Kumho fan myself ... never been let down by them. Never felt a lack of grip, blah blah blah. Never felt they were half the performance of a Pirelli at a price only comparison etc etc. V8 or else ...

For the screen i use a micro fibre cloth. If it needs some cleaner, I carry a small bottle of hand steriliser in the car and put a squirt of that on the screen. Hand steriliser is for use after filling up with smelly diesel, kids sticky hands etc.

As for the tyres, shop around. The Pirelli's are still the best by all accounts. Current MY2020

Hand sterilizer is mainly alcohol, cleans great but could damage the screen after a while cause its very drying..

I use Yokohama Advan ST V802 as they are much cheaper at approx £185 each and are a good performance tyre. Replace the contis on mine at the first change and am now on my 2nd set

Wales 2003 Range Rover SE Td6 Zambezi Silver

The problem with having 20" wheels is that there is much less choice of tyres to fit. Also most manufacturers seem to charge a premium for their 20" tyres. 18" or 19" tyres are a lot cheaper.

I had 20" wheels fitted with Michelin tyres when I bought my FF. The tyres were quite worn and I was shocked to find new tyres were in the region of £250. I ended up buying a set of 19" wheels and tyres in the end. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE
