Installed it on a spare laptop ... Removed it within a couple of hours ... No start button was a deal breaker for me.

Metro is nice and quick, but it's no substitute for normal windows and the way I work on computers. V8 or else ...

Been running the server hypervisor on a ProLiant server for a while now. Looks OK to me. Stable enough, especially considering I used the pre-beta we get access to at work.

Tried it, removed it more certain than ever that I'll be waving goodbye to Winblow$ and going to Mac.

I've got a couple of Linux systems and tried lots of distros butI am now at the stage after using and administering a variety of systems from Dos, RiscOS, Windows 3.11-7 Ultimate Redhat, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Yellow Dog, HPUX, Solaris, Novell. etc etc

Some good bits, some bad bits but now I can't be arsed and just want a computer that works and that I don't have to apply/tweak/uinstall updates etc.

I Applaud Linux for the community feel (admittedly can be a little l337 and unwelcoming initially for Windoze noobs).

I pillory M$ for their odd fear of IP theft which leads to lots of groups of programmers all seeing a tiny piece which is then stitched together by another blinkered programmer into a huge ugly bloated patchwork quilt.

Apple have their faults but API control, secure code and smooth bottleneck free interoperability, a fantastic disk journal system, long battery life, fast boots, minimal updates FTW.

Imagine this:

Arrive home, want to look at something online.

Open laptop, press power button. Log in, browse.

Done =bliss.

One point; for all my weariness with this shaight- without these rubbish systems it would be a lot harder to charge as much for systems support!!

Thumbs Up

I always use hibernate for that reason Very Happy

Problem is the security level of hibernate is poo Sad

I gave it an install last night and well.... hmmm... i can see support calls coming in for it now for business's that don't take a miss on it. I do like W7 as i find it secure enough with the MS offerings but when you use proper security it is good in 64bit varient, and i can see why they aren't really bothering about 32bit OS's much as it needs a good 4gig to keep going and does need it if you do push a system like i do Very Happy

The apple offering is OK but there are issues with it as well and as it becomes more popular it will become more of a target.

Agreed though on my Vaio TT I find hibernate to be sluggish (that said it boots in 28 seconds from cold lol)

One of my engineer's MBP takes around the same time to boot into Lion with an HDD.

Think I'll treat myself to a new MBP or air with the SSD.

We're stuck with Dell Shatiutdes in work and my E6410 is a pig.

Still it runs ok on some of the virtualised stuff I set up.

I think I'm starting to hate all IT. Lol as rubbish as some systems are you can't beat some of the user's questions!!

PICNIC and PEBCAK for those that know. Wink

The tape recorder/IVR from the IT Crowd is always something that makes me chuckle as its just so true!!

SSD's can improve speed but be wary, some are good and some are very very bad...

As a long time Mac fan (1998) and with 50% of my company on Mac it is difficult to be objective about Windoze. But to respond to an earlier post about the long boot time for a MBP on Lion I suspect he might have done an upgrade rather than gone to the trouble of a clean install. We were amazed at the difference in boot and wake up after having trouble with a MB Air.

We know that Apple are not perfect but our business IT support costs went down by 70% after we swapped.
