Urgent help required - alarm going off solid tone

I connected my OBDII reader to the car this evening and before it had even been connected up properly (plug in dash but other end not connected to reader) I got a loud solid tone from the alarm module, air suspension fault, no interior lights, and central locking all failed. I get repeated solid tone all the time unless I have the key in the ignition in position 1 and have the RAC diagnostic cable connected. Plugging the usb end into my lappy to get RAC up and running causes it to go off with a solid tone again.

HELP! It's getting late and my neighbours are going to be really Censored off with me.

Oddly enough I can still start the car with the key and drive it.

Power steering has gone all heavy, and the interior lights are flashing a bit.

Feels like some sort of short circuit?

was the lead connected to your laptop, what i am looking at is any type of power short, now this may sound strange, have you closed the obd flap as some of them have a small jumper in the flap.. just a thought Question V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Already tried it. The alarm goes from solid tone to beeping. Nothing works still. I think the BCU may have gone pop.

sorry just read your post again, you did say it was not connected, close the flap and disconnect the battery give it 5 mins and reconnect, make sure your keys are NOT in the ignition when you reconnect. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Tried closing the flap, yes.

Just reading RAVE. It says the alarm has a constant tone but doesn't say when it is triggered. It also says the BCU cancels the alarm when it receives an appropriate signal, which is presumably why it stops when I put the key in position 1, but that's the only way I can stop it and I can't leave it like that all night.

As soon as I close the flap, the alarm goes off again! Have battery disconnected at the moment, but the backup battery on the sounder is keeping the neighbours nice and angry.

Sounder has stopped beeping for the time being. Going to have to leave it like that now overnight. It's all unlocked though - daren't touch it in case I set it off again.

What a mess. Will have to try reconnecting the battery tomorrow.

I think you've popped the fuse for the BCU... Its in the glovebox fusebox... Have popped the fuse twice on customers cars whilst converting and they come up with the identical faults you are describing... I cannot remember which fuse number it is and im not sure off the top of my head what the fuse symbol they use either...Sorry to be vague! Just visually check them quickly, im quite confident you'll find one gone...

Many thanks for that Craig. I'm popping home at lunchtime to take another look, so will check that first. Is it a standard automotive fuse? Got plenty "in stock" if it is.

I got this when I pulled Fuse 8 (radio) a while back, alarm went away when i put it back in though. Don't think I had the key in either. .

Many thanks to Craig - Fuse 15 blown (5A). Only took two attempts to find the right one!

Replaced and now all fine again.

Phew!
