Many thanks for all the contact details guys - the car has now been transported to Emil Frey in Lausanne who claim that they have some capacity to diagnose on Tuesday, so I'll wait and see! I would have thought that they would have been jumping at the chance to charge me lots of money to fix the problem though...

Many thanks for all the help - I now have the car back and it was ..... The low pressure fuel pump - and I suspect that without a prior diagnosis that It would not have been fixed out here.

maybe buy it and keep it in the car so when it fails you can make them swap it at the road side  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Honestly Emil Frey dealer su** - they own Schwabengarage here in Germany and are one of the biggest dealers in Germany BUT their service su** hard core..
