Door Handles !!!

Why O Why do the Door handles have such a poor finish. I replaced my orginals just before Christmas as the paint finish was lifting and looking generally scruffy. That took me around 5 hours, job done nice new Handles fitted .......happy !
3 Months Later, washing car i notice the paint finish on the new handles is becoming seperated from the actual handle. Checked them all and they all have the problem. When the sun comes out the ripples tighten back up and you would think all was ok. Then it rained and they just rippled up again. I touched them and the paint just fell off.
I decided to get my old handles painted (to match ..Java Black), and have just fitted them 3.5 hours ( i'm becoming a expert).
The ebay dealer i got the (genuine RR) handles from has agreed to refund, But really the handle finish should be able to last as long as the car. Never seen this problem on any other cars including cheap runabouts.

Rant over, off the put plasters on cut fingers.

Problem is i bought them from an ebay dealer. (And paid too much) As i found out on this forum. I agree though, had i bought them direct from a dealer, i would have made them change them (and fit).
It still dosen't get away from the fact that this should not happen on any car especially a luxury, expensive car like the FFRR.

The problem is, the oil content in the plastic they are made from... This is why the "stick over" covers were developed by powerfuluk because for customers that required colour coded handles were complaining the paint was going bad within months...

Im afraid, what ever they are painted in its a lottery if it stays on! I wont paint them any longer!

They were OE land Rover ones in Boxes. I understand the Oil content may be causing the problem, but why don't Land Rover change this, no other manufactures seem to have this problem. My daughters 107 has painted handles that are like new.
Or are they making lots of money from mugs like me.

Agree with Andpopse, I have the same problem with 2 of my handles and the LR dealer doesn't appear to have touch up paints for them either, so I'll end up going to Halfords and convincing them to allow me to take several touch up sticks outside for a few mins to see which one is the closest match to my handles. As you say, I have never had the issue on any other cheap or expensive car I have ever owned either. Steve

Its the same reason you didnt have colour coded bumpers on P38's from factory until 2000 or colour coded wheelarches on Ford Ka's till 2000'ish

Primers dont stick to oil!

Buy the stick on covers, they fit great and don't wear over time. Had them on customers cars (most in brunel grey) for 5yrs plus...
