Brembo Brakes question

So I have been keeping an eye on the bay for any bargains on brembo calipers, discs etc. I have read a few posts and it seems that the 6 pot calipers will fit a 06 td6 3 ltr diesel , but only with 20" wheels and up?

The standard factory ones on it, are these 4 pot?

Do the supercharged FFrr just have brembos at the front and standard at the back?

Im not one for throwing away money, but IF I saw a bargain I'd go for it, afterall I'm a bit vain, please confirm I the following are the items I need if changing to brembos.

1. Calipers
2. Discs
3. Pads (any brand)? Kinda like the sound of ceramic pads cause of the absence of dust.
4. Brake hoses..?
5. New brembo brake sensors

Is that it? what yous think? I don't believe my discs have ever been changed, 74000miles approx.

Thanks

hi.. i think you will find the 6 pot wont fit your 06 they are for the 2010 and on, you need the 4 pot brembo's, your list is about complete but you will need to mod the disc back plates to allow for the bigger calipers dont buy cheap pads they will squeal like mad and wont be as good. the back plates are not that dear but its a lot of work to change them, just cut you old ones and re-paint them. do you want them for the stopping power or just that they look nice. not being funny.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Well a bit of both, I know I'll have to change them in the nxt couple of mnths so I thought I'd go for an upgrade Cool but in fairness I have slammed on the brakes a couple of times in the last few weeks and they just don't have the stopping impact, kinda felt like my braking was taking longer than it should to stop, I think that's called brake fade.

When I say slamming the brakes of course it's not my bad driving Wink but those idiot Sunday drivers and taxi men who drive me mental..! Sorry if I offend anyone Thumbs Up

What would ur recommendation be with regards to changing my brakes? Would u just forget abou brembo and get good discs and pads?

Lolo, your cheapest option is to go the SC/TDV8 brembo route (same system)... More wheels will fit with them, if you are after increased stopping power then im afraid you will be disappointed... As i have done this to my previous TD6 and a few customers cars and cannot tell the difference... If you buy used, you need to make sure all is complete as i see and hear lots of horror stories!

Quite honestly you are better off replacing/upgrading your system rather than shelling out twice as much for pads and discs every time they need replacing (which will be more often with Brembo's)

I would say, there's problems with your brakes though as they are normally very very efficient and have comments all the time as to how "over braked" the FF is...

Hope this all helps?

Craig Thumbs Up

I looked at the brembo route for mine cause I was towing and finding the brakes were sometimes not stopping in the time I thought they should.

I've since replaced both front calipers with a set of refurb ones ( through the usual channels ) and put a set of yellow EBC pads in. My old calipers were getting sticky and not pressing onto the pad smoothly.

The difference in performance is much better than I thought it would be. The yellow pads are heavy duty ones bordering towards race track type pads. They need a couple of simple stops to build heat into them, but once they have that *, they are really positive under all braking and dont feel like fading or struggling when doing high speed stops for roundabouts off dual carriageways etc.

*when cold, they still stop fine, just that when heat is in them, they are noticably better. V8 or else ...

The only benefit of bigger brakes (other things remaining the same) is their ability to dissipate more heat.

If your standard brakes can offer enough retardation to lock the wheels/trigger the ABS, you are at the limit of your tyres and bigger brakes aren't going to stop you more quickly. If you aren't having problems with your current ones fading/overheating/whatever you're wasting your time and money changing them.

funny how we're all thinking about the same things at the same time.
As we speak, I'm reading RAVE about the brake system.
I was leaning toward the ceramic pads at replacement time.
Less dust, no (human-audible) squeal seem like positives to me.
The ceramics seem a bit more expensive than the semi-metallics, but not prohibitively so.
And, the current pads must be ceramic, as there's no dust evident.

The only issue I may have is that my son usually drives this car; so for the "bedding in" period, I'll have to drive it, as he's a bit more hard on the brakes than I am.
Yeah, the sacrifices I make, voluntarily driving the FFRR for a couple days.
It'll be tough, but I'll suck it up and do it. Whistle Jim
