Hoping someone can help me.

Just bought a "silentwitness" car blackbox and camera.

It attaches to top of windscreen, and i've purchased a fused wiring connector. Think it needs a 12v feed which is live when car ignition on.

I thought i could feed the wire into the headlining unit where the courtesy lights are? Anyone done anything like this before?

How would i identify the correct wires to splice into?

Any better place to mount it?

Run a live from the glovebox fusebox to the camera

Thanks for the replies.

Is it better to run a wire up from the glovebox than splicing into a live wire near he courtesy lights then? Suppose that means pulling off more trim?

And where does the negative go ? Just to any earth?

These are probably really basic silly questions but have never done any of this before.

If i splice into the courtesy lights live feed or the sunroof will the extra lod be picked up by the ECU and give an error code?

Not sure if you will be able to tap into courtesy lights as they are only live if doors are open and on a timer, also it could potentially throw up a fault with the extra load.

Any earth will suffice.

I would still use one of the blank fuses in the glovebox, yes a little more work but should not take too long and will be nice and neat when stitched back together

john's suggestion is the best one me thinks....just remember that the units 'plug' reduces the current from 12 volts to 5 volts .... ... - .- -.

Plug might reduce the volts from 12 to 5 not the current which in theory will go up a bit

Good call didnt know they did that thinking of one for son and heir's car Mine was a blue one!

i know people that have cut the power plug off and connected directly into the 12 volt supply...fried their stuff ... ... - .- -.

It will do!  Mine was a blue one!

So - I've now got the wiring kit and "add a circuit"

Going to have a go at this tomorrow (if it's dry). Any suggestions about which fuse to use? (ie one that's live when ignition on?)

Even better would be one which is live when car unlocked until a few minute after it's locked? Like the touchscreen. That would mean it would be filming after you got out of the car - so would give a bit of security as you walked away.
