LPG - MPG

Hi

I have recently picked up my FFRR following its conversion to LPG

My fuel consumption is around 12mpg on LPG, which surprises me as I thought(hoped) it would be nearer 16.

Appreciate driving style can effect this but I would say I am quite light footed. Most of my journeys are steady drives at 50-60mph on A roads and dual carriageways

Should I be talking to the converter or am I being unrealistic?

i am not an expert , but from reading a few posts on other forums it does seem that you get less actual mpg on lpg but this is offset by the cost being cheaper per litre. Something about the thermal content of lpg being lower than petrol and not giving as much 'bang' ..

good conversion = 85% mpg on lpg compared to petrol - you will get less. I get about 15 to 16 mpg average. 17 to 19 on a run ( on lpg ) V8 or else ...

i thought that LPG gave about 2/3 of the mpg as petrol but and 1/2 the price, making it just a little cheaper to run

How many miles do you get to a tank of LPG ? I normally get 180ish out my SC - on arun though I have seen 220. My tank takes about 70 litres from empty

68 litres of gas gets me 210 miles mixture of use which equates to 14mpg.

Running on a BRC system for the last 40K ish

The turbo P38 does 12.5 mpg on a tartarini gas system. 5.0 supercharged autobiography
Gone-4.4 Vogue Lpg now unmapped
4.6 HSET Turbo Lpg mapped
Gone-Defender 90 200tdi
Gone - 3.9 Sprintex supercharged LPG
Gone - 3.9 Vogue LPG

I was getting from 220 plus on a tank, which was around 72 litres, on my S/C. Of course depends on type of driving, but that was with some short runs, mostly cross country, and some high speed on the motorway, without sparing the horses!

I reckon 250-300 should be achievable on a run with a light right foot! At least in the S/C, which may actually be more economical that the old 4.4. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

The calorific value of LPG is aprox 20% lower than petrol. Therefore you get aprox 20% less MPG. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Agree with MikeyJD mostly; you get a bit less bang for your buck. It was more noticeable on the old systems pre multipoint injection, I think. I can get near 20 on a run, light footed & mostly low 13s round town. I dont rely on the OBC -dont forget, thats just using values for petrol injection emulated by the LPG kit - fill - to fill is the true way to work it out.

The OBC is a useful tool for comparing driving styles though.......

Still 69p/litre near me!

I work it out by cost per mile, using a tank to tank fill up. I get the equivalent of 28-30 MPG (using petrol at £1.40/ltr). I get around 240-250 miles per tank and fill up for c. £60.

Cost is therefore between 24-25p per mile on LPG. (equivalent)

I only have a 72 litre tank in the back ( 54litre fill ) and its too short a range for me ... does my head in sometimes. I can push it up to about 180 mile range at best.

By the sounds of it, the SC is getting better economy than my 4.4. But I've long thought that a stonger engine worked easy is more economical in some cases, so it doesn't surprise me. V8 or else ...

Fisha-its worth considering upgrading the tank. They are not as expensive as you might think, and you will get money for your old tank. I got the biggest tank in mine, 102 litres, as I had your problem in the past. You need to fiddle about with the wheel well to make it fit but its worth it.

MPG of naturally aspirated M62 versus S/C? Is it not a case of the later motor being designed using the latest technology, for both economy and output?? I had a nat aspirated 2003 F150 pickup with a 5.4 Triton engine, which was a new design from Ford aimed at attaining the California emissions standard. I could get 21-22 mpg even knocking about, 23-24 on a run. And it went like bizz off a spade, lovely truck as long as you werent going round corners.

Costs me £60ish to fill and get 220-260 to a tank...

That said, i only ever use LPG on a run i.e. if i get on the motorway i normally flick it on then...

That sounds similar to my consumption on the motorway

How come you only use LPG on a motorway trip ? I use mine all the time......
