Noisy TDV8 (3.6)

Hi,
I have an odd problem (perhaps??) whereby when the outside temperature goes above 12 degrees, the engine becomes noticably noisier in the cabin.

Has anybody else experienced this on the 3.6 TDV8?

Main dealer says that they cannot fault it

M.

Is it the viscous fan - a kind of wooshing sound?

no, it is the whole engine being generally louder. it is almost as if it is under strain (if that makes sense).

Very noticable when pulling away from junctions / accelerating and driving at lower speeds.

Even my wife has noticed it and she normally complains that I am fussy!, probably because over the last few days we have gone from noisy to quiet and back again because fo the ambient temperature.

really strange

I am wondering if there is a temperature sensor fault somewhere (engine temp, diesel temp, air temp etc etc) that could be fooling mixture values or something.

I know diesels are not fond of warm air but it seems such an exact "switch" when it gets over 12 degrees!!!????

I was actually wondering how the tdv8 is meant to sound.

Mine is generally rattly/tappety under load a bit like a pinking noise i used to get it a petrol, its quiet when stationary and revved or ticking over.

Generally wasnt paying too much attention to the others i drove re engine noise.

Are they generally a bit "tappety" under load? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

yes, mine does too, and as you say, very much like the "pinking" noise of a petrol engine.

I have been googling the "diesel engine louder in warm ambient temperature" for weeks on google but cant seem to find anything.

I am begining to wonder i am getting a little fussy in my old age..lol

I seem to forget that I came from a P38 Diesel (which I blame for current hearing loss Laughing )

When I moved from the SC to the TDV8, and having read lots of reviews on the diesel, I was expecting not to hear ANY tappety noise, but I guess any diesel angine will sound like it at times, so I just put it down to my high expectations of NO "taxi rattle".
What I have noticed is that when stopped at traffic light is that when I put the car into neutral from drive, the engine note changes and is a lillte quieter. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
