no, it is the whole engine being generally louder. it is almost as if it is under strain (if that makes sense).

yes, mine does too, and as you say, very much like the "pinking" noise of a petrol engine.

When I moved from the SC to the TDV8, and having read lots of reviews on the diesel, I was expecting not to hear ANY tappety noise, but I guess any diesel angine will sound like it at times, so I just put it down to my high expectations of NO "taxi rattle".

I have heard a few rrs with the tdv8 and they seemed the same too.

Mine seemed really rattly today, pootling round the IOW. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
