Hi, I've got a 4.2s/c with 55k on the clock, I've been getting a lumpy gear change for a while now when approaching a roundabout, then while in traffic heading to Goodwood ( very slow 1st and 2nd gear) it got all confused and we ended up with 1st gear only so I reset the fault and every thing has been ok apart from the lumpy down change, I have also recently noticed that it seems slow to select drive from reverse or stopping when warm, oh and I also get a slight judder when it hot but only for a second or so, I'm dreading it being a gearbox renewal ?? any input greatly appreciated,

I'd suggest to quickly do a megaflush or filter/fluid change, hopefully it is just the oil getting dirty.

Also after that you should probably go to the dealer and ensure the software for the transmission is updated.

Do you have any other faults, especially EMS related. It could be that the EMS is sending incorrect information to the gearbox, making the gearbox think it needs to change gear slowly. I would say this is less likely than above but who knows.

Lastly, have a look at the linkage underneath the car and lube it up as per other threads on the forum. I would say this is least likely considering your description. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Right I've spoken a man that can, and the first step is to check the levels as he thinks the judder is low oil then have it in for valve body stripdown, rework and oil/filter change, £650+ the dreaded and all should be sorted, any view's or comments ??

Oh linkage is A-ok , no faults relating to the ems ( i dont think,) or tho I do keep getting a msg that low box is unavailable even tho I've not selected it ???

Have a look at electrical connectors as well. I had similar warnings coming in at random, transmission gear change range limited and transfer box not available. I just checked all the fuses for being tight and haven't seen it since. As the faults were completely random and very shortlived (seconds) I am pretty sure it is connectors (it was during rainy season so going through deep puddles a lot).

My gear changes are very smooth (after doing filter and fluid a few months ago). It was near perfect before I did the filter/fluid change and it was only minor things like being a bit "late" going into drive and going back from 1st to neutral was a bit lumpy. As said all gone after filter and fluid change. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
