I have a 2006 TD6 with the standard 19" 255/55 alloy / tyres.

As my tyres soon need replacing at approx £160 per corner i have been looking at alloy packages.

Quite like the Stormer type 20" - whats the deal with putting 20" on a TD6 , many have said no , but many have said no problem.

Prices are around £800 for a set so it doesnt work out too bad.

The tyres I have at the moment are Goodyear Scorpion and have last 35k+ miles.

Would these normal "package" tyres , like Toyo e.t.c last this long?

Land Rover max recommended wheel is 19" however i have run genuine Land Rover 20s and Overfinch 22s and no real issues however firmer ride. I wouldnt use aftermarket alloys myself and most Stormer replicas are 9 or 9.5J Wide Wheels which is really for a RR Sport width so would need a 275 wide tyre rather than 255. Hope that helps

35000 miles sounds great and doubt toyos would do that.

The main problem people have is a vibration through the steering wheel and floorpan when stationary and the car being in drive (with your foot on the brake).

The degree of this vibration is different from car to car but I have 20" LR 7 spokes on my TD6 (MY06 and has had diff upgrade done) and its a bit of a pain but really worth it for the look.

If you knock the transmission into neutral at lights there is no vibration what so ever - it's just a bit of a low down rumble when stationary in drive.

I was really worried about the vibration issue in mine before I stumped up nearly a grand for a new set of wheels and tyres, but Rimmer Bros (supplier of wheels/tyres) let me buy the wheels off ebay (brand new), collect them, try them to see if the vibration was bad and then return them for full refund if I wasn't happy.

Excellent service - just check the rims if you buy them from them as I unpacked and inspected all 4 when I was there and 1 had a chip out of a spoke.

Also, if you DO want to upgrade to 20" alloys I personally would stick with OE ones, there is a LR Dealer who sells the 7 spoke 20" alloys with tyres (Contis) all brand new on eBay for £749. That works out cheaper than getting tyres alone.

I honestly cannot find a connection between the size of the wheels and the vibrations in a stationary vehicle!

Well it's the truth!

Side wall profile of the tyre is the cause - it seems that anything lower than a 50 profile on the TD6 gives these vibration issues.
