Had a valve stem shear on me yesterday. Just going to check tyre pressures and the plastic cap and stem and valve came away in my fingers .

What is the price of new ones? Fitters don't seem to keep them in stock around here. Looks like I can get them off fleabay for about £22 each.

Is it a good idea to change all wheels at the same time, given the fact that they are an Alu alloy and prone to corrosion? 6 year old FFRR.

I was quite surprised how much these cost - and ended up buying a couple off the bay (one to keep as spare)

My experience was the same as yours, I just touched it with an air line and the thing gave way and the tyre deflated in double quick time. Unfortunately, it was the night before a holiday and the boot was packed to the roof but I have a mate with a FFRR who lives just round the corner, so he came out & lent me his spare and I was able to get it fixed first thing in the morning before we set off (albeit with a rubber valve)
