Bingo!

Thanks Nick H Very Happy

That confirms the theory that TD6 and V8 models need different caps. I currently have a '140 cap' on my 4.4. The garage who looked at my car said they noticed that another 4.4 they had in had a '280 cap'.

This is strange because I can't find any supplier who can sell me a '280' cap - they all say they are the same for both diesel and 4.4. I can understand the tank being the same but it looks like the cap must be rated differently.

This all relates to this post, regarding my water leak from the cap

Rang Land Rover dealership and ordered one - they can't tell whats on the cap until it arrives which will be Friday.... Gavin

The Definative expansion tank cap answer :-)

Ok, I think this deserves a post as it may help someone else with the wrong expansion tank cap on their 4.4 V8 BMW engine (2003-2005).

You need a '200' cap for the BMW engined 4.4 V8 -

Not one of these -

Underneath they look like this -

The correct 200 cap is listed with LR as being for the 2001 model of the L322 - dont be put off by that, just order the part number in the picture from a LR dealer.....

Can't take any credit for spotting the difference - that goes to Gary at www.MRHLandrover.com in Hertford.

cheers Gavin

Help Needed... Which Rad Cap?

What pressure pressure cap should be on a 2004 BMW M62 V8 Rangie?

I've ordered a new one and it's arrived - but it's a 140 pressure rating - the one on the car is 200... Which is right?

Scanning the web (and using the search on here) seems to imply it should be 200 - but other sources say that this was superseded by a 140... Help!

OK - on the web this http://www.land-rover-parts-shop.com/en/ui...;year=1998

and this

http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/part_page.php?partID=14526

and this

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID009230 all show that I need to use the PDC000070 cap. My VIN is 4A18XXXX

This cap is 140 (1.4 bar) pressure - according to the Rimmers page, only the very very early ones had the PCD100200L which was a 200 (2 bar) pressure cap...

I'm stuck now!

If only it were that simple Stan.

It looks like the 200 was only (officially) for the early models. Later M62's (and replacement caps) are all 140. According to my tame RR mechanic. The change was because the 200 was holding so much pressure, slightly overfilling the expansion tank would cause it to crack, or even hoses to be pushed off.

So, as I need to drain it and refill with fresh anti-freeze, I'll try the 140 for a few days and see what happens. If I lose water I'll know it's not man enough for the job.

But I have had the tank crack (and I know I'd overfilled it by about an inch in a moment of blindness).

Cheers Stan.

I've got a new 200 coming in the post - so will stick with that. It appears that there is a lot of odd information out there about this - RR dealers are sure that the 140 replaces the 200.

God alone knows what's right!
