You just need a large shifting spanner or pair of stilsons. The inner tie rod comes apart really easily as its always coated in grease.

Ok though not keen on adjustable wrenches to be honest. Just hoped someone would know in case it was a funny size.
Cheers though

Others have said tom but they will be well siezed (Landrover cant afford a penny per car in copperslip)
A lot of luck and big stilsons or get the inner and outer and save yourself the grief! Mine was a blue one! Smile

I am changeing the inner and outer. I meant to hex section on the inner steering rod where it attaches to the rack.

99.9% sure the lash in the sherical joints between inner and outer is the source of my knocking.

The inner tie rods are behind the rubber boots & soaked in grease so they'll come apart really easily. Dont worry about a shifting spanner, the tie rods are really easy to undo with an adjustable spanner & you wont damage them by doing so.
Remember that you must keep the ring that goes over the end of the track rod end itself. I'd recommend that you just put an angle grinder through the old shaft because its highly unlikely that the nut on the track rod end can be undone. Repack the inner ends with grease when rebuiilding. The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

I was asking as the boots on mine are totally disintegrated so there is minimal grease in the spherical joint or around the hex section buts cool will see when i do it what size it is.
Cheers

Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

I just spent a day trying to get the one of the track rod ends off the tie rods. Even with angle grinder refused to budge. Then did a search and found this thread.....ordered the new tie rods and got both sides done in half a day! Once again, a great site for info.

Stan, this thread should be on the wiki ! 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black
