What's Under The Battery Tray ?

Does anyone know whats under the battery tray ?

As I've been a bit of a bone head and dropped a 10mm socket down there when doing up the battery terminals.

It sounded like a pinball machine and could now be gone forever !!

I can't see it from above, and don't really fancy taking all the battery out just to get it.........

Cheers

I saw loads of those tools at the Billing show just over a week ago..........nearly bought one !!

I'm not sure there is an "all the way down" from under the battery.

Will double check..........

Fuel burning heater below battery.
The socket could drop thro but there is a lot of metalwork in the way.
Easier just to buy another socket for now. Smile

Be careful.
I decided to remove the battery tray. I undid the bolts and gave it a good pull to get it out. As sais before underneath is the FBH. But it has a bobbin mount under the battery tray which looks like it is assembled from the top down. I ended up removing the stud for the bobbin and putting a bolt in that I had to feed through the hole in the battery tray I drilled. As they say curiousity killed the cat.

mmmm - 'a good pull' and the BFH are good methods in auto repair, but they must be used quite judiciously...

I did the same thing with a short 10mm spanner. Couldn't see it from above so thought about leaving it but if it did happen to drop out it could go through a tyre. A socket is not likely to do this even if it was run over at high speed. Your call that.

But, I ended up removing the wheel arch liner to get it out. Took about 30 mins including removing the wheel.

I lost a 10mm socket when working on my Peugeot 405 Diesel late last century.
I found it a week later while dismantling the gearbox. It had dropped down the timing hole in the top of the bellhousing and was fine for a week till several hundred kilometres later it got picked up by the flywheel and was fired into the diff forcing the spider gear shaft out the side of the diff. The socket wasn't that badly damaged but was unusable. I had the gearbox and diff welded up flushed the internals multiple times and stuck it all together. It ran fine till the next owner wrote it off.
