My first (major) fault !

Well, it's happened.
We'd been out to visit the outlaws today, and got home about 3 pm.
All fine on the way there and back, but 10 minutes after we'd got home I went to get my wallet in. A large damp area on the tarmac under the front bumper. Popped the bonnet, and signs of where antifreeze has been sprayed around by the fan. Left it to cool down for 20 minutes, and went out again. When I unscrewed the expansion cap, a fair bit of gurgling, and then quite a bit more fluid appeared from between the fan and the radiator.

Ah well, looks like I'll be using my Terrano shooting truck for work this week : ( My plan was idiot-proof ...

Will probably be getting it in to my local independent : www.powerrange4x4.co.uk.
Only about 5 miles from home, I'm just outside Denbigh.
I'll probably have a good look tomorrow though, get the underside exposed to view. If it's obvious (hose split/come off, etc), then I'll crack on and do it myself. My plan was idiot-proof ...

Right, had a good look this afternoon. Thankfully, not a particularly horrendous problem.
The leak is on the hose which goes from the top of the rad (on the driver's side), down alongside the fan, under the rad, and appears to go into the block at the bottom on thepassenger side.
That hose has been coming into contact with the fan, and has been abraided through. The fan blades seem ok.
I assume that the hose is usually clipped out of the way, and a clip has become detached.

Anyway, as it looks like a Censored to do, I'll be trying my local indie, it's been 7k since the last service (when the engine was replaced) so it's due an oil and filter as well.

This assumes my local garage isn't ridiculous on price, of course. If it is horribly expensive, then I'm quite willing to do the job myself. My plan was idiot-proof ...

Sounds like when the engine was swapped the hose wasnt fitted correctly, its an odd failure.

If i were you i would be back to whoever fitted your new lump and point out their error...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I had something similar with a camper van in the US many moons ago. The powersteering hose failed and the mechanic that fitted the new hose, fitted it against the fanbelt. Luckily I checked it a few days later and noticed in time, so the second repair finally did the job.

I would go back to the garage that fitted the engine but don't expect much I would say. 7 months is a very long time and they would argue that something else could have dislodged the hose in that much time (although the hose has been on the car for years before that one can assume Wink ) MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I bought the FF 2-3 months ago from BenJJ on here. It's a relatively cheap, simple fix, and it would be a 200 mile round trip to where the engine was done. My local indie (5 miles away) picked it up this afternoon, and assuming it all goes to plan, will have it back to me on Thursday. My plan was idiot-proof ...

Thumbs Up at least you noticed before the coolant dumped itself over the road at 70mph.

That may have screwed another engine....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

When I bought my old L322 new back in 2004, had exactly this problem. The hose had been rubbing and had the tiniest of splits in it - which opened up under load, but when the engine was off it didn't leak a drop..... Was told at the time that a number of td6's had been built with the hose fitted incorrectly. So there was some kind of recall.

Sadly I discovered the problem when I was 300 miles from home.
