If you don't want to pay full price (less the ~5% education discount, maybe more, you can get if your son is in full time educ) it's likely going to have to be a 2nd hand unit - Apple don't do discounts either direct or through 3rd parties like Comet/Currys/John Lewis.

I'd just get a decent dell Inspiron or latitude as much better value for money |

You could buy a Mac Book Air, I've used mine every day for over a year now, never crashed, stopped working, even dropped it from a height and continued to work. Current MY2020

I think you get a better spec of pro for the same money. I think with Airs you are paying for the thinness.

Great value if it sold for (or you got it for...!) £571. A new one is £939 at education prices, or currently Apple have refurb Airs at £789

Think I was quite lucky, right time right place etc. They had 16 for sale, now all gone, I genuinely got the last one. Yes, I saw the apple refurbs and I might have gone that route if it were not for stumbling upon this on eBay. As I say, 7 day return and 6 month warranty should stop me worrying I might have bought a piece of junk!

I reckon you could easily sell it for that on eBay if it doesn't suit. Graham

Get more ram in it ASAP at Lear another 4gb and swap the hdd out for a ssd at least 240gig in size and stick the current disk in a caddy to use as external storage. It's the older sandy bridge setup but still usable. How can a course be geared toward using a mac?!? Is that not elitist?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Ive held off going down the mac route for years ... however the wife brought a macbook air home from work and I have to say, its brilliant. the trackpad and way to scroll about pages is so intuitive.

Well, it arrived this afternoon. We have thoroughly checked it and it actually looks brand new. There is no visible mark on any surface. At £571 it is £400 cheaper than buying from Apple. So, I am happy at saving money and my son is delighted that it looks new. Previously..
