So, hope someone here can help me out. Ever since I got my Rangie, there have been watermarks or stains of some description on the Windows - but here's the thing - only on the back passenger windows and the windows behind them, not the front windows, windscreen or rear window. It is a bit hard to get a clear photo, but if you need me to, I'll post a couple tomorrow.

It's never really bothered me too much, but after spending 7 hours today cleaning it after a long weekend in the bush, it has come up better than I have ever seen it, and these stains are now bugging me...

They look like small water drops that haven't been dried properly, but they won't shift no matter what I do. They seem to be on the outside of the glass and have nothing to do with the tinting. The tinting on all windows - front and rear is all the same, and not damaged or bubbling in any way.

Any ideas out there?

Possibly had aftermarket tints fitted

The tints are the same on all windows and the front drivers, passengers and rear glass are fine. As mentioned, it appears to be on the outside of the glass and the tint is on the inside.

i would suggest that there is some 'dirty' water trapped between the tint film and the glass.. ... - .- -.

Bird droppings maybe. The acid in the droppings leave marks like dried up water but won't be washed off. I have the same, just left it for a few days and now I need to do some polishing work as I heard that is the only way to remove it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Not bird droppings, they are all over the the whole of each affected window. Stan's suggestion sounds plausible, but again, it is not on all of the windows which are tinted, just the back ones on each side. Not sure if these were the factory tinted windows and the others (fronts) were done later? All a bit of a mystery... I'll try to get some decent pics tomorrow night.

I don't have tints on mine, but when I got the car, it was covered in some sort of tree sap. Windows and everything.

The only thing I found that could move it was a Clay Bar.

I did them as part of claying the whole car.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a clay bar? - and how does one use it?

Sorry mate, it's part of like a car polishing kit, you use it to take all the impurities from the paint and get it "like new". You would then wax afterwards.

If you put clay bar into youtube there should be loads of info on how to use it.

You spray a lubricant on the bodywork, and rub the clay bar over the paint. Impurities stick to it.

If this what I have experienced before in WA then it will be a unique problem to Oz and no amount of cleaning or clay bar will do a single thing.
You will have extremely hard water I presume much harder than anything in the UK and on top of that extreme and relentless sun this combined will bake on the lime stone deposits in your water so I would try a mild acid maybe even vinegar and followed with some glass polish .
My brother in law never washes any of his HSV's properly and they all are plagued with impossible to remove water marks . 2008 MY Supercharged

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll start with the clay bar and see what happens. Looks the goods for the paint too. The more I clean it, the more I want to keep cleaning it... Is detailing a Range Rover addictive... If so, I may be falling into this trap...

I never ever had a problem washing my cars when I lived in north-west WA and Gav's in Melbourne.

The greatest problem I had was the red dust acting as grinding paste and the intensity of the sun ageing the paintwork.

But I do accept that hard water could be a factor, other than Stan's latest reponse.

Maybe it's the way the car's parked (same spot and time when cleaned?) affecting only one area of the car, but that's an outside chance.
