Anyone else have this problem , some days it is okay other days when you are typing it suddenly jumps back into the middle of the sentence that has been typed … PITA ..

And yes i have checked , the batteries are okay , happens more when the space bar gets pressed

i think you need to do the following.

Open a new email.
open edit on top task bar
open substitutions
the one you are having the problem with is the letter I in caps
Delete this auto change and you should be ok

My daughter's MacBook started doing that. After a while we noticed that the battery had swollen up, putting pressure on the bottom of the keyboard. Once we replaced the battery, the problem stopped. 2006 HSE

It's not a MacBook tho its a iMac ...

@ Jay , I tried to do what you said but when I go to the substitution box none of the suggestions are live if you know what I mean they are not highlighted ...

Not had this with any of our iMacs with either wireless or wired full sized keyboards.

So, some basics....

When this happens does the cursor always go to the same character position in the line?
If not, do you have a trackpad or similar touch-sensitive device nearby that you are somehow touching?
If it does, it suggests you've possibly triggered a 'feature' (much like 'End' or 'Home', not that I know of a Mac "go to ch pos x" cmd)
If not, do you have anything 'extra' overhanging and so contacting the keyboard? (like the heel of your hand for example - what were you thinking!!??)
Have you changed/swapped keyboards (if you have a spare obviously)
If your batteries were going, then you'd tend to lose connectivity first rather than send spurious keyboard codes, it is possible though but it should cause random effects not consistent ones.
..but you could have a keyboard failure causing this.

Ideally, the first thing would be just to swap keyboards - eliminates either that or the iMac itself. Without that, swapping the batteries and giving the keyboard a damn decent blow might help. 2012 FFRR Westminster Orkney / Ivory and absolutely no pimp-glass!

Use a wired keyboard and see if it happens.

If yes try a wired mouse.

If it still happens.

Seriously the above 2 items should help identify the exact cause.

if it is the keyboard it self then its a faulty microswitch thats shorting when it shouldn't be. Time for a new board  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Mac keyboards, and other 'thin' keyboards tend to be capacitive inductance/reactance type rather than microswitched, where a (usually carbon) plate is lifted from/or pushed against a pcb and the resultant change in capacitance cuases the 'character' to be recognised.

...they're non-fixable though (throw aways) so either way, if your k/b is at fault, then as kingpleb says, it means a new one.

Where the plate is lifted, it also gives the tactile feedback,wheres when pushed against, it gives a dead feel. 2012 FFRR Westminster Orkney / Ivory and absolutely no pimp-glass!
