2006 Range Rover Autobiography Supercharged Zambezi Silver
Nail in Tyre - Good Deal !!!

So my daugther has a sore throat and my wife send me down to the local shop for some calpol / cough mixture....come out the shop and notice a nice shiney nail right on the shoulder of the rear near side tyre. Bummer, realise from the position of the nail that it cannot be repaired, but the tyre had pretty heavy wear on the outside edge so was nearly fooked, but on the face of Xmas I wasn't ready to replace them.

So I went down to my mates tyre shop, hoping that he'd plug the nail, he looked at it and said it wouldn't repair, on hind sight, I can understand why. So I'm looking at two replacement 255 50 20 Toyos at approx £320 for the pair (both rears were almost needing replaced and I wouldn't change just one)

He told me he had something I might be interested in, just got them yesterday, 4 19" OEM LR wheels fitted up with nearly new 255 55 19 Vredestein Winteracs.......I had a look, have to admit that they are not the wheel I would choose if i was buying new, however, the deal he offered me was too good to pass - 4 wheels and tyres for £450.00 - needless to say I snapped them up. Only problem is that they don't have TPMS but I've got an IID so i can turn it off.

Heres a picture, look not too bad eh ?

The wheels / tyres are literally brand new, no marks at all. Initial impressions are that the ride is smoother, although have noticed that the steering wheel is not as quick to 'self centre' after cornering. I feel smug in the fact that I got 4 wheels and tyres for less than the price of 4 new tyres and that I now have the ultimate snow beating machine !!

Thoughts ?

Cheers

I'm coming to the conclusion that whenever I need new tyres I'll just look for another set of wheels with tyres.

The Wintrac's are the most popular choice at present and do a great job at a great price. Thumbs Up

Andy, out of interest, what pressures do you recommend running the Wintracs at ? I've heard conflicting advice, I realise that Vredestein recommend higher pressures than Land Rover - from looking at Disco3, the general consensus seems to be 39F and 46R ?

Cheers
