I have been searching here and elsewhere but can not seem to find an answer so please go easy on me.

I have a set of RR roof bars with cross members. Very much like these http://goo.gl/21K1b

I am trying to find a bike carrier that fits as it seems all the Thule etc ones do not as the bars are too wide. A

Am I missing something or can it not be done?

If you have a tow hook fitted then this is ace (I got one)

That mountney one might work but can't seem to find if the fittings are wide enough to go over the RR bars.

No tow hitch on my FF so tow ball mounting no good for me.

And I thought this was going to be easy...

if you are struggling these types of carrier usually have some type of U clamp to fix them to the bar, it may be possible to mod them by using a larger U clamp.....and liberal use of a drill There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

How much do you care about the bars ? Are you using them for other things ?

The Thule racks would fit if you were prepared to drill a hole through the bars.

I think possibly the reason that there is a limited number of options is that it is a long way up and you would probably need steps to secure them on/lift them up. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Would love to put them in (and usually do) but having to travel about 200 miles this weekend with 2 bikes, large dog, baby and assorted paraphernalia.. It just all won't fit in...

Drilling and Thule sounds like it might be a plan.

Hmm I had Thule roof bars on a GL and it was definately a step ladder job, and hard work getting four bikes up and down. If you have a tow bar then that is the better way to go. The Thule racks are much better than the LR version, but not cheap!

I have Thule bars and bike holders.

The Thule aero bars have a slotted channel! The bike holders have a piece that sits in the slot, like a big square nut. I can't see why you couldn't drill a hole through the bars and use an actual nut.

The only issue would be that you would lose the feature of the bike holders being locked to the rack.

The other option would be to forget the existing bars and buy some Thule bars.......

SOLVED !!!

The RR bars also have a slotted channel (Did not look close enough) and have now purchased a Thule ProRide rack to fit.

Turns out it was me being silly afterall however thanks for all the responses.
