Texting while driving

A very graphic reminder of what goes wrong when your concentration wanders

I have had the misfortune to attend an incident which was very similar to this where two young women sustained fatal injuries & I personally feel that more of these shocking video's should be viewed regularly.
I commend you for bringing this particular video to our attention. Sadly its not only the young that are guilty of texting while driving
Robert. The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!
When women say fine a mans in deep doodoo as fine has so many meanings.

That video was the reconstruction of an actual event if memory serves. Pretty crap when it was on TV and still much the same. TBH these films are all the same, pretty wooden acting etc and have no impact. The people who do get shocked by it are not the ones who would do such things and the intended target audience are the ones who still ignore the rules regardless. Waste of time & money making it in truth.

There was a silimar one about D&D around the same time. Same deal there, shocks everyone except the idiots who drink & drive.

Dont believe me? Go do a straw poll of smokers and those new tumour adverts. Absolutely no effect on smokers but fairly disgusting to people who don't smoke and can't imagine why anybody would.

There's even some dumb Censored made a comment on that video that texting and driving is as bad as drinking and driving. Erm no. Sending a text causes concentration distraction for a moment but D&D affects your entire judgment for the entire journey. I'm not suggesting texting is acceptable, advisable, excusable, sensible or clever, but really, who hasn't lost concentration for some reason or other when driving?

All a bit hysterical really, and hypocritical too when you see all the past threads about enabling TV in motion, entering Nav destinations on the move etc. Rolling Eyes

My way of dealing with those stupid enough to grab the phone and text or call whilst driving (humour to deal with the tragedy) Tragic but life's way of dealing with those stupid enough to do it. Smoking or drink driving and using a phone should all be instant bans.

Smoking whilst driving = instant ban...................
Using a phone = instant ban...................

Really, so then how will the world function? No cpmms for any use... Fire, police, ambulance, rescue associations etc etc...

The problem is IMHO, people see these adverts and generalize, yes, texting whilst driving is stupid! Glancing down at your phone whilst say stationary at traffic lights in rush hour when you have not moved in 20mins is just as illegal as whilst doing 70mph, should that carry your same instant ban???...

The many many times i watch police/crime programs and the officers are driving on blue lights, on two way radio's, even on mobile phones in some cases... Then they expect youngsters to not do the same...

And smoking & driving = instant ban.................. I take it your reformed then... Rolling Eyes

Where's the common sense gone in this world...

Exactly !! I absolutely agree with what you say Craig and the quoted item especially. That's the trouble, therre's no fekkin common sense any more, and you wanna know why?

Elf-n-bleedin'-safety, that's why. There's so many damned rules that we are conditioning future generations into not having to think for themselves.

Go back over 100 years and read some of the quotes from Herbert Spencer (philosopher) and you'll find plenty, but most notably one which says something like "The result of shielding man from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools"

And I bet you a month's salary that if all the modern safety stuff was removed from cars then people would drive rather differently.
Replace steering wheel airbag with a big spike
Remove seat belts
Drum brakes all round (no servo)
Manual gearbox (no synchromesh),
Keep-fit windows,
No power steering
And so on.

Those were the days when a car had to be driven properly. Try driving a Series 1 or 2 Landy whilst texting....assuming you can still move your fingers in this cold weather of course. Even at the miserly speeds they can achieve it is almost a certain death if you crash one.

Despite the bleeding heart brigade wanting everything banned the facts remain. You cannot un-invent a mobile phone or any of the other things that people bleat about like guns, dangerous dogs, etc. What is needed is a return of common sense and that ain't gonna happen until all this self-serving HSE BS is brought under control. You know, a risk assessment isn't a fekkin form to be filled in, it's a continuous thought process.

/soapbox

Thumbs Up
