Won't jump start

The FF hasn't turned a wheel for 2 weeks, went out to it today and the battery is flat as the proverbial! I hauled my Clarke Jumpstarter out of the Garage (starts up to 4L diesels apparently) and connected it up. Everything then lights up OK but it only turns over very slowly a couple of times - not enough for it to catch. Thinking it might not be man enough for the job I cranked up the Defender and tried to jumpstart it of that but this time it just clicks and whirrs, but it doesn't turn over.

Has anyone any ideas?

Not enough power.

Take the battery off and charge it over night. should be ok then Thumbs Up 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

Cheers, I did wonder but when I checked the Spec for the Clarke it reckoned it would start up to 6L petrol or 4L diesel. I guess the TD6 needs quite a bit of power to start it then?

How are you connecting the leads. I was told that if you connect to the battery terminals of a completely flat battery, the flat will be consuming some of the power. the correct way is pos to pos and neg to engine block therefore not going through the dead battery. not sure how true it is but worth a try. Ash

Get a car upto it that's running and connect it up and give it 5-10mins and that will get it running.

Then a nice long drive after the side to side reset and jobs good.

I've always found no matter how good the booster is, another vehicle is much better. The bigger the better ideally Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I had the same with mine last night (TD6) battery pack couldn't do it, even tried jumping of a slave battery. In the end I put battery charger on it for an hour.

The Clarke pack has started mine a few times from completely flat...no dash lights zilch.

I connect it to the jump point.

I managed to jump mine from a cheap booster whilst in the queue for the iow ferry.(damnation to the tv and coolbox) just did it.

I find you have to have a really good connection to get most things to turn over. Make sure the leads are on properly, connect it to the second car ad leave it running and charging the ff battery for 10 mins. Then try cranking the ff. should start no probs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Agree - its more than likely a poor connection.

I've put permanently wired Anderson connectors on my cars, jump leads and booster to give me the best chance.

Thanks guys, an hours charging this morning and it started with the booster. Funnily enough I fitted Anderson connectors to my Defender so I know I'm getting a good connection there but haven't bothered on the FF, I'd need some new Anderson to Anderson leads!

Agreed. I have the Clarke Jumpstart 4000, since I bought it it's mainly been used to jump start the tractor mower!

However the Defender sat for a month and wouldn't turn over, so I attached the JS4000 and left it for about ten mins, then tried cranking it. It just needed some charge getting into the battery.

As an aside I once tried using my JS4000 on my dad's TD6 and it wouldn't work - I had just bought it and was very proud to get it out and show him how it's done, felt a right berk at the time but it turned out to be a seized starter motor in his case so was never going to work. Discovery 4 HSE

I think the TD6 is just a hard engine to crank compared to the V engines Smile

Like i said, 5-10mins with any other car powering it strains their alternator a little but does the job just fine as long as you use nice thick jump leads Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
