You are pretty much straight on the autoroutes the other side not a lot of chances to get lost. Just make sure you get on the right one! Thumbs Up

Ihavent been on the ferry for a few years but from my recallection the tunnel is a lot easier.
I use it at least a couple of times a year without the van, off to france for the first time with the van in august. Let us know how you get on maneuvering on and off. There should be plenty of room as they get coaches on but have never done it with the van so will be interesting. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Not taken a caravan, but have taken trailers and boats (on trailers) - its very easy.

There's plenty of room to manoeuvre and it's straight on and off.

Dogs need passports and to have been worked by a vet before coming back. You need to check them in on the Callais side before boarding, so allow 15 mins for that.

Thumbs Up

With a long unit you need to swing wide to get on the train to get nice and straight behore you enter the carriage but like the other posts you will be in with the coaches.
+1 for doggy advice need to see vet at least 24hrs before return and be checked at Calais there may be a fee for this there is on the ferry not taken dog on tunnelso cant comment on fees.
No checks or fees going out from Dover.
Again as other posts you are straight on main road/motorway but it does try to guide you to the west/Paris so check you are going the right way if going North east.
have a nice time Mine was a blue one! Smile

Watch out for the height restriction bar at the Eurotunnel terminal UK side. Last trip a tad costly as the max vehicle height bar set at 1850mm 'removed' the GPS fin....... Having been told by Eurotunnel reservations that the FFRR would be within the 1850mm limit ( Offical RR Figures 1820mm ).. Was Offered £20 compensation in return... THANKS ! 2005 Audi A8 W12

you should always go in the coach/caravan carriages, less toilets , more width/height and normally quicker on/off. ... - .- -.

Just watched a YouTube vid showing a caravan going into the train- it's probably the camera angle but it looks very tight getting through the entrance!

It's fairly wide, so as long as your competent, it's straightforward - you're in the same carriage as the coaches.

If you're towing you're always in over height anyway - the doors of regular height are not big enough.

You can get the FFRR in regular height by lowering the suspension. Overheight costs the same, but there is less availability - and therefore less flexibility if things go wrong.

Dogs are 15 each way per dog. Needs to be wormed by a vet and get a certificate, alco needs a UK 'passport' for rabies. The rabies stuff can take months, so talk to your vet sooner rather than later.

Thanks to everyone for the useful information. I've certainly pick up some good tips. Thumbs Up

Our dogs have already got their passports and I've read the lastest DEFRA update for the extended times for the treatment of tapeworm.

I've used the ferries with the caravan before but not with the dogs.

What has confused me is that I watch a youtube video of someone going through the Folkstone terminal and they were all over the place going down the wrong roads to get to the loading platform.

Is the signage lacking or was it this driver not knowing what he was doing.

Please keep the comments coming.

Thanks. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8

DEFRA update might be useful.

1. This from DEFRA site:
What you need to do if you are travelling from 1 January 2012
From 1 January 2012 tapeworm rules will apply to pet dogs only. Not less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours (1-5 days) before its scheduled arrival time in the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme, your dog must be treated against tapeworm and the treatment recorded in the EU pet passport or the third country official veterinary certificate.
•No treatment is required for dogs entering the UK from Finland, Ireland or Malta).
•Please refer to separate advice if you are travelling with assistance dogs
Your dog must be treated against the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis using an approved/licensed veterinary medicine whose active ingredient is Praziquantel, or an equivalent product. You should check with your vet to ensure the correct treatment is used.
A qualified vet must carry out and record the treatment in your pet’s passport or third country certificate. You must not administer the treatment yourself. The vet will charge you for this service. The treatment must be carried out every time your pet enters the UK.
If, before you enter the UK, less than 24 hours has passed since the treatment, you will have to wait until the full 24 hours have passed before you can enter with your pet. If the treatment was done more than 120 hours before you enter the UK, you will have to have your pet treated again, have the treatment recorded in the relevant document, and wait at least 24 hours before entry. In these circumstances the waiting period and treatment for tapeworm can be carried out in quarantine.
Pets being taken abroad from the UK on day trips will need to have the treatment carried out in the UK not less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours before they enter the UK on the return journey. In these circumstances, it is recommended that a further treatment should be administered 28 days after return.
Pet owners are reminded that it is considered good practice to regularly treat their animals against a range of ticks and tapeworms as part of their routine health management, especially if travelling abroad. Veterinarians are advised to discuss with their clients the appropriate course of action. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8

Driver must have been a moron, it's about as well signposted as it can be and you usually just follow the line of cars in front anyway. The opening is most of the length of a carriage, so you just swing in. It's exactly the same for coaches, they load through the same door into the same carriage. Of you're even half competent it's nothing to worry about.

Just thought - check on LPG - not having a caravan, it doesn't affect me, but I think there's a complete ban.
